Just realised that the FS i quickly ‘waggled’ in the dark on the carpark at work was a 1.25 specialist and not a 1.75 tamer!
A different animal completely so am still interested in a pair. Cant really find anything better than what i’m using without upping the budget a bit!
The only other rod...
I’ve actually bought him a pair of the 4000 Pulzars (new). They feel a lot better than the Shimano ST and if they are anything like the Inception & LS versions i use for Piking, they will be fine. Better line lay than Shimano and the freespool can be set to almost like an open bail arm. Think...
No lol, i wont spend that sort of money tbh! One, i really dont think it’s needed & two, i fish for everything and have a garage full of rods and reels. If i fished exclusively for Barbel, i might entertain it but i might get sidetracked by perch or roach or Tench (etc) and not use them again...
Just had a quick waggle of a FS tamer in the car park at work and wasnt overly impressed tbh. Think i would have been a bit under impressed if i had ordered them. My Guru twin tips feel a better rod 🫤. The drennans dont look worth the money (sadly as i love Drennan gear) i had 3lb powermesh Pike...
As mentioned in another thread, i’m setting my son up for Barbel so have decided to give my Guru 1.75 rods which i think are great rods tbf.
If i’m replacing mine, i may as well upgrade slightly and was thinking of Freespirit Barbel Tamers 1.75 as they are about the limit i would spend. They...
That’ll do for me then. I thought they’d be ok.
He’ll probably upgrade after a few seasons anyway once he gets to grips with it all but didnt want to start him off with something he’d struggle with
I’ve always taken my son fishing and consider it a job well done as he is now mad keen and will be an angler for life. He chose to go down the Pike & Catfish route although now fancies a go on the rivers for Barbel.
I’m going to set him up for the new season (birthday pressie) so want to get...
Pallatrax Gripz (wide gape) for me. I was a bit sceptical before trying them but they’ve been brilliant. Super sharp & never lost a fish yet even when giving slack line when weeded. Use them everywhere now and not just ‘barbless only’ venues
I’ve tried loads but the Gardner Target ones are my favourites at the moment for grouping micro pellets at a reasonable distance. The problem with maggots is the lack of weight and shape so think you’ll struggle with any. Have you tried the sticky maggot powder for making them into balls?
I followed your advice Richard and while stripped (4000OC) i applied a VERY thin amount of grease to each part before re-assembly and have found it to have made a noticeable improvement! Before, the line needed a bit of a ‘tug’ to start it moving and then i found i was tightening the clutch as...
Is it a guy on Ebay? Foil4u?
Sorry, i’m at work and didnt give it much thought initially. my other was done by him and i’d want them both the same. From what you’ve said it sounds like it is!?
Yes please! Sounds perfect. I have found them online for £100 (new) but intended to get it converted to QD so would have had to pay another £20. If you message me your details, i’ll send the money tomorrow if thats ok
Just one thought, has the conversion used the original cap?
Thanks, wasnt sure if it speeded up the drag or just made it super smooth. I’ll keep them in the original state in that case as more than happy with them 👍
I have a few Shimano OC 4000 reels and am going to give them a strip & clean after a rather muddy winter on the Severn. While i’m at it, would it be worth ‘upgrading’ the clutch washers?
Dont want a ‘fast’ drag and dont mind the large amount of range the clutch already has. It also works fine...
Anyone got one sitting around doing nothing? They aren’t everyone’s cup of tea and know lots of people have bought them and not been impressed. I bought one off here and although initially though it was a bit agricultural (rough) the more i use it, the more i love it!
Must be in vg condition!
