I had considered the direct debit set up, but was put off by a club member who, a couple of years back, had his account cleaned out because the EA had somehow taken the debit something like seven times. Besides, a stroll up the road to my local sub post office is on the way to the pub anyhow.:D
I don't think anyone's panicking, it's just that after having the current system in place for a few years now, the usual level of service has been well below par for whatever reason.
Just received mine after a wait of just over 5 weeks. Read in the AM that a "printing problem" was experienced for licenses bought between March 16th and 31st, whatever that means.

I totally agree regarding cranking power, if it has the same gearing as the DL it would be a struggle. I think possibly Shimano realised they'd missed a trick by discontinuing the 5000 size and maybe are trying to redress the situation, but for heavy feeder situations requiring good...
The advantage with the Aero X is that it has a larger spool diameter allowing for better casting and retrieval whilst retaining a small light body. It comes with spool reducers so that you don't have to load with more line than is necessary. The DL4000FA is fine on small rivers though, horses...
I use 50" Dinsmore Spiral Points. These extend to 90",which should be enough. If you use an alarm then the angle of this can be adjusted with a Wychwood alarm angle adaptor. Fox make a similar item about the same price.
