Have to agree with Neil, for the majority of rigs I can't see any benefits of using flouro instead of mono. The only time I use flouro is when using a short 4 to 6 inch hook length below a bolt rig maggot feeder. The stiffness of the flouro makes it very hard for the barbel to eject the bait...
Where exactly was the pollution. I walked the river a couple of days ago, from the Bletchingdon Wides which is just downstream of the quarry, through Shipton and to the start of the Thrupp stretch, didn't notice any discolouration of the water. Which spawning ripple are we talking about?

No need to ask elsewhere, as said before, as long as you strip the last couple of inches of the braid, you will have no trouble attaching a size 12 hook. But as Paul has stated, why go that small when fishing in weed. I have caught plenty of barbel using size 6 hooks baited with maggots...

I think a 8 inch hook length is about right, I would use a coated braid instead of gravel braid, something like korda ntrap soft would suffice, just peel the last 2 inches above the hook, this would act like a combi rig. Add a korda anti tangle sleeve below the swivel and embed the hook...

I have 4 slammers, replaced my trusty old Abu 55s with them, if they are intended for heavy feeder or lead work then I would recommend you get them. Make sure you get the liveliners, makes life a lot easier having no reverse. Excellent clutches and bomb proof!

If not sight fishing, how confident are you that an exposed hook on a 3 to 4 foot hook length wafting around, has not caught up in the week?
