    DAIWA SENSOR LINE PROBLEMS

The boxes were probably delivered by EVRI. I had a parcel from them a while ago that looked like the van driver had run it over!

Spam Fritters were the best meal for school lunches. Loved them and wish I could have them over again.

    Drennan Acolyte Specimen Rod

I have the 15ft Acolyte Specimen and I am a bit mixed with my views. This may be due to the fact my "go to" rod is a Free Spirit Hi-S Power Float rod also at 15ft (original version not the current model) The Acolyte has a faster tip which is great when casting lighter floats but as my barbel...

    DIY Rod Ring Replacement

I have cracked the liners in the past and had just the liner replaced by a chap that does repairs for the local tackle shops. I realise it is too late if you have already removed the ring but worth noting for the future or possibly get the liner replaced with it off the rod to keep the rings...

    Mainline for trotting

I use Edge Tackle 8lb which is 0.22mm for all my barbel trotting and fid it performs well. It is supple and fine diameter for the breaking strain. They recently had a buy 2 get 1 free offer (not sure if it is still on) so I stocked up with 3 x 300m spools. I will change the line 2 or three...

Tight lines for new season everyone

I am off work for 12 days now. Not rushing out on 16th as I am going early a.m. on Monday on the Trent with a couple of mates with our float gear.

    Polarized sunglasses

Before you spend a lot of money I suggest going to an Optometrist (Optician) for a sight test. Once we get into our early 40's a condition called Presbyopia sets in which is loss of near vision and adaption of our eyes to adjust focus from near to far and far to near. Obviously the age at...

Korum waist trotting tray, Is this a good or dumb idea?

I do think Korum tend to invent products for a need that does not exist. Like yourself, my first thoughts are that should you lean forward while wearing one of these for instance when returning a fish then the bait is going to tip out or your bait box is going to fill with water. Likewise if...

    PVA mesh

Another vote for PVA Products. Look out for their ebay auctions. I have picked up packs for next to nothing when there have been no other bidders.

Float rod comparison Free Spirit vs Drennan

I have the original FS 15ft Hi-S (not the latest one with the eva above the reel seat) and recently bought the Drennan Specimen in the same length (it's the one Richard had a go with). So far I have only used it for chub fishing and it appears to be more "tippy" than the FS. It is lighter that...

    Drennan super specialist

The one on ebay has it so assumed it was a standard feature. Apologies if I got that wrong.

    Drennan super specialist

Looks like a bargain. One of those sold on ebay for £85 recently and another one is listed at the same price by the same seller. My preference for a rod in this test curve, if river fishing, would be to have interchangeable quiver tips as per Drennan's current Twin Tip Duo range although yours...

    Spam - or not?

Morrisons Bacon Grill is now my go to meat bait. If I am using a static bait I cube it up in advance put in a zip lock bag, chuck in some garlic granules and give a good shake. For float fishing I use it naked and it stays on the hook when retrieving saving having to rebait after every trot.

    Oops…reel repair needed.

Take a look at the spool and see if it is dented and just catching on the frame and not the pin itself out of alignment. If that is the case find a drill bit that just fits in the rim of the spool where it is undamaged then approach the dented area and carefully tease the metal back into shape...

No longer required - Drennan specialist twin tip duo 12' 1lb

If your friend got the 1.25 lb TC the tips supplied are 2oz glass & 3oz carbon. The 1.5oz glass tip is a good investment although I believe that one does come with the 1lb TC. Just something to note if needed. Drennan dealers should have stock.

    Float fishing Hook knots

I mostly use spade end hooks now and pre-prepare hooklengths at home. I find it easier to use my fly tying vice than a hook tyer. When I was younger I could hand tie down to size 18. If I do use an eyed hook then a three or four turn grinner would be my choice.
