Thanks to all for your responses. I had not heard of the Preston lines & had heard good comments re the korda too. I will be visiting my outlets tomorrow morning to have a gander & hopefully give one of these a bash early next week.
Many thanks again.
Jon
I am presently mixing up my fishing with a bit of stalking/surface fishing for carp until the cooler end of the season comes round for barbel fishing.
For surface fishing (controller with bread & pet biscuits) I presently use Drennan Double strength & have done for many a season. Even so, I...
Fair comment matey & well worth the leg pull! I did not realise my extra additional post yesterday - doh!
I was trying to do this on some posts in the (not so) distant past. Unlike the old board, (retrospectively) edited posts don't get bumped back to the top of the forum so one can stealthily...
Why would you think that. Someones on the ball! Just cleaning out a few posts that now on hind sight I would have not presently posted.
Cheers, Jon
PS As far as I'm aware editing does not increase ones posts.
PSS I did not realise I added another post to this yesterday evening - whoops. There...
Use the search facility on all of the above advised & any key word. Also, search the old forum too. It's surprising how many of the present topics have been addressed a number of times. Welcome to the forum by the way.
Cheers, Jon
I think the brown/burgundy blank was the first SP version, tho I am not 100% certain.
My understanding was that Mk1's Armalite are a grey carbon weave blank, Mk2's are green carbon weave blank. The Mk1's were meant to be a better rod that Mk2's.
I had three Mk1's & sold them - one of the...
Jim - like it. Plausible...watch (your) this space for forth coming consultations on the consultation...

Good practice on the fisheries owners part to take the massive effort to drain & clean out the lake. Due respect.
I can totally understand the need for getting in and out of the boat & that makes every part of the fight even more eventful & memorable. So many parts of the fight to overcome &...
Just a personal tale extended from the other hook thread...
On a lighter note - how many of you's have hooked yourself whilst making rigs, casting out, slipping etc?
An example for me was a closed season three years ago when I was making rigs to the early hours of one morning. I had made...
Thanks again lads.
Steve H - those wide gapes are cracking hooks mate. I hope the fingers healed mate - that hook was very deeply inbedded way past the flesh & as you mentioned, not easily removed!! I was glad we managed to extract it on the first attempt.
You took it well, usually a...
Tim,
Agreed on choice & cost of preferred venue.
Due to work constraints I had a quick 12 hr bash mid November on a central Midlands pond that normally I would not touch with a barge pole. Given the time of the year & that conditions were very hostile on a very exposed site, no one else...
Cheers for the responses so far.
Jon E - thanks for that link - a pic on the site of Jason Haywood endorsing, whose a tart for sticky hooks. The vice looks the kiddy for smaller hooks especially with larger digits like mine!
Found their hook sharpening video interesting too...
Actually, come to think of it, I have become a half-cast angler.
Ostracised by the carpers & shunned by the barbellers...
It's a lonely place to be... :D
When I go into my tackle shop the owners & their clientèle welcome me by saying
"Here comes the failed carp angler"
as they consider (& is probably true) that barbel are far easier to catch then the carp they fish for.
I love the banter & makes me laugh!
