An excellent thread and some great replies, especially from Graham, Howard and Dave T. I've been retired 5 years now and can only echo what has been said about variety and, in my case, not fishing too often - I average 1-2 times a week - and doing lots of other stuff besides fishing. I've...
Arctic Sport Muckboots in my normal shoe size with a decent pair of warm socks works well for me in the coldest conditions. The best boots I've ever tried.
Greys make some lovely looking rods, but I too managed to break one (a 2lb Prodigy top) once and read about this happening to others, so I've been a bit wary of them ever since. However, I'm looking for a pair of tench rods with a bit more grunt than my 1.5lb Drennans and am wondering whether or...
Many thanks to everyone on this forum for keeping me informed and entertained over the past 12 months, especially earlier this year when family illnesses and losses restricted my time on the banks. A very Happy Christmas to you all.
I'm with Dean on the Drennan - so far. I also agree with Neil on Drennan generally - I still use an old Super Specialist net for all my trotting and chubbing - battered but it shows no sign of giving up.
My only post to Albert was after his loss. At the time we had just lost my Mum. Then my Dad died earlier this year, so its very sad to hear that Albert has now passed away too. I hope he's now in a better place. RIP.
Not expert with smart phones/i-pads Graham, but they do appear to have their limitations. Was recently told by a big utility company that I would need to use a laptop to set up a payment. Tried the i-pad anyway and it wouldn't allow me to enter a sort code. Back to the laptop, then all was OK...
We don't know each other Albert, but I do feel for you, my Dad having lost my Mum last year after 69 years. You clearly have some good friends on here and those that can will rally round. The best advice Dad ever received was to try to say 'yes' to everything. I sincerely hope that this works...
I happily used Avons for many years, but eventually found they became a little inaccurate. I 'caught' my last set under-weighing by an ounce, at least the right direction I suppose, although I'm still haunted by roach and grayling each weighed on them at 1-15. So, I decided to try digital and...
I've been using Silstar Match Team for my float fishing, on the reels and with lighter hook lengths, for many years and despite trying several alternatives, have yet to find anything better.
I also use it in 7.9lb for light feeder work, but prefer something more substantial like Sensor for...
A great story. I've never been much of a pike angler, but my best also took meat trundled down a fast run below the weir on Lower Benyons. Thought I was into a really big barbel until the longest pike I'd ever seen appeared at the net, a really slim fish, but it still weighed 17-08...
