I've got an old Trakker weigh sling with two aluminium rods, which zips at either end (not the new mesh material). This has been great for the obvious but is also easy to put in the river and scoop in plenty of water to allow the fish to rest prior to weighing/photographing. It's also handy for...
Sorry to bang on about army gear, but this is usually GORE-TEX too...at a fraction of the price! Yes, it's gloriously camouflaged which won't appeal to everyone but if you can live with that it's a no-brainer IMO. Remember to only buy new...not used.
You can then choose all the layers in the...
One tip to anyone thinking of doing this to vlog on YouTube, make sure your audio is of a standard at least equivalent to the footage. Inbuilt mics on cameras are rarely (if ever) of a good enough quality. You may be filming in HD/4K, but without clear audio, it will be frustrating to view.
I have a pair of Grubs Snowline 8.7 boots (neoprene wellies really) with a good sole and ideal in freezing conditions but....
Like many boots of this type, their grip is useless on mud-covered steep banks when it's wet.
Secondly, if your feet sweat a lot, your socks will get wet. Forget...
Ideally, anyone using alarms would have the volume turned off and a remote sensor in their pocket on vibrate. This of course is not a cheap option and is rarely the case for most barbel anglers. So, turn them down so that they are just about audible and have your clutch set correctly on your...
Get some curve shanks. When you've landed your first fish and try taking the hook out with your fingers (as opposed to forceps) you'll realise what a great hook-hold they provide. Cheap as chips from various ebay sellers.
Jason, do you not think that your approach may give anglers a bad name? Just wandering onto someone's property and fishing without permission is hardly likely to endear yourself to the landowner and may scupper anyone else's chances in the future.
This looks a good buy for anyone who requires an XXL:

Chris, I knew they went for over a hundred, but not that much. I paid £85.69 for the Specialist Quiver in June 2015. Everyone must have been asleep! Since buying it I haven't really bothered looking but the current one came up as an email alert and I had a nosey.
This is worth a few minutes of your time if you want to understand waterproof ratings and breathability rates. Whilst specifically referring to skiing wear, it nevertheless can be applied to fishing scenarios.

John, are you hair-rigging your baits? It's possible the chub are just mouthing, then dropping the baits when they feel resistance.
I would have thought that the rod you are already using would be perfect for the job.
