I'm sure you'd get away with that Gary, but might be a little light for more testing conditions. I'm using Carp rods of 2¼lb TC with gripper leads of 2½ or 3 oz as a starter on the lower 7rn. I've not done any real floodwater fishing yet but may need to increase the lead accordingly. Zeds...

Last night on the river drew a Zander blank :( They've gone into hiding mate. The good news though - very little eel interest. So maybe the snigs have taken note of these cooler temps :) I won't be on the river again 'till next week.

Thought I'd try somewhere else today. Bit slow if I'm honest but the single fish I had, in a daylight only session, was 6/7lb -

Re-reading my old posts I can see that I quit too soon, having let the eels get the better of me. Next trip out is Sunday evening, again on the river.

Just back from another extended session - mainly targetting Zeds. Lots of eel trouble still, but I've found that if you stick with it a Zed will eventually put in an apperance. Only one fish to report at 9.07 - took a small dead skimmer Steve

Paul - That bright sunlight did me a huge favour today - by putting the eels down. Yes, I still got one or two eel 'nibbles' but it gave the Zeds a chance to find my bait. (I also had another about 6lb)

Just back from that 48 hour session. Eels still a mare as soon as the light fades, even with very fresh baits. I wasn't going to give up that easily though. (Although having sat through yesterdays deluge I was beginning to question my sanity :D) The river rose during the night, not surprisingly...

Dreadful session !! I found that freezing the baits, certainly Bleak anyway, softens them too much and the eels strip them to the bone in seconds. :( I'm off now for another two nights but will be catching fresh baits to use - its the only way. Roll on the cooler weather.

Cheers Dean Just back from a 2 nighter but only had 2 smallish Zeds & 1 small Pike. Temps currently not an issue, both fought really well and went back fiesty. Eels are a problem. I guess I had half a dozen eel takes to one Zed. A couple made a right mess of the rigs, sucessfully tying...

I took the opportunity yesterday to start stocking the bait freeer with fish for this years Zander campaign. In a short evening session I bagged 50/60 good bait sized Bleak between 4" & 5". ;) One fish was a real good 'un of well over 6", and I'm guessing 2+ ounces - built like a miniture...

With Zander being the new Pike it could be a bit busy on the river this year :rolleyes::D Glad to hear Bens back home mate

Andy/Paul - Last Sunday was my first dedicated Zed trip this season, so I was well pleased. :) As much as I want to fish for them this weekend, I think the water temperature will be too high and I have to put the interests of the fish first. Still, all the more reason to go fishing for...
