Thanks guys - the batch in the bucket of water outside is begining to smell vinegary already, so it looks like I can 'save' what I have. It may even be a blessing in disguise, and really produce the goods.
Next issue will be handling the stuff without me ending up stinking. :D
Steve
Rotting or Fermented ? Are they the same thing ? They don't smell the same (to me anyway)
After further internet reading (Canadian & American Carping) I've decided to start an experiment and see if I can progress to a fermentation state. It seems they really like 'aged/sour' maize across the...
That's the sort of thing I would consider 'fermenting' David. I find my hemp 'turns' after a few trips out. I'd call it 'vinegary' and the fish love it. I'm thinking my maize hasn't had any heat (barely ambient temperature exposure), or oxygen (as its bagged in approx. 1kg amounts) If that makes...
Early last year in anticipation on some fairly serious Carping sessions I prepared 20kg of Maize, bagged it, and popped it into a newly acquired second hand chest freezer. It was full to the brim.
Well to cut a long story short the Carping didn't happen so it's been sat there all year. No...
Zander aren't playing ball at all right now so nothing to report :(
I did however get to meet the Phantom fish tagger
I did a session Saturday when he appeared and came for a chat. Obviously I didn't know of his secret pastime,
It was a short while later that I landed a small Pike at...
I agree with Rhys in that it looks like a Lamprey attack. I had a Pike a couple of years ago that had a perfectly round , deep holed but well healed wound. That looks just like a start , maybe he didn't like the taste of Barbel
So is the rivers about to get another stocking of pasties from BAA's Uckinghall pool ? It's very good of them :D
Bet they're ****ed about the Zeds now in there
Lets hope they put cats in next time. It'll be a refreshing change to see Matt Hayes fishing for something else other than...
:D I could have written that post myself.
Just one addition I like to do - I add approx. 20% Vitalin before the hot water. Also do this first thing of a morning and leave in a sealed bucket until the evening. On opening mash/mix it by hand and compress. the finished mix is a lot stickier than...
Well said Darren. My experience of the LS (my low stock sections anyway) is that piling the bait in is the kiss of death.
Last year a couple of lads did just this, huge amounts of bait was put in on day one, and they sat on it for a whole week, day & night. They blanked as far as Barbel...
Agree Ade. The river below Tewks gets tidal influence on alternate weeks, so I refer to it as the tidal. Once below Maisemore or Gloucester (depending on which leg you take) it's virtually tidal every day, sometimes big sometimes small.
For short range fishing, and an underarm lobbed cast, I don't thing you can go wrong with a non tangling heli rig. I add a coated braid hooklink, not too short, and small gripper lead.
I wouldn't recommend this for fishing an upstream style though. The bolt effect may be lost with the fish...
