Long sessions - your tips for...avoiding mother nature

This reminds me of a thread from yonks ago on the Cemex site. Angler eats a curry. Hours later he get deli belly. Goes into bush with trowel and toilet roll. After numerous visits he runs out of toilet paper. Last seen returning from bush with no pockets or sleeves on his shirt. ;)

Help please-blank on Martin Bowler rod

Can't be sure, but rumour had it that they WERE on Harrison blanks. As previously stated hard to believe for their modest RRP.

    brolly or shelter

Afraid not Steve. It has the standard small "skull cap" (if you like) piece of material on the top, and not the plastic boss as in the Supa brolly II. Never had a problem with mine. I have added a couple of extra storm caps in case it gets really windy. I always remove the centre pole...

    Big chub

Graham, earlier this year I had a 7lb 10oz chub from a river you know well. Maestro Mike subsequently caught the same fish last week....at 8Lb.

    Digital scales dunce appeal

Steve, I've got an old set of Flyweights and they've always been spot on, checked with some GPO post office weights. I also have some newer ones and they are rubbish, if you look inside there's lots of plastic parts. I've had numerous digital scales and they've all let me down at some point...

    Stick float rod

Dave, a dedicated stick float rod, lightweight with a spliced tip, will be unsuitable for barbel fishing, you will definitely need a power float rod. The drennan and preston ones you mentioned should be ok - btw I think you mean asaki, not askari. Most manufacturers do a power float rod. Do...

Something to sit on when roving

Steve, I don't know your age, but if you are not in the prime of life, you may find getting up from a cushion/bum buddy not that easy. Like me, from the floor you may have to swivel 90 degrees, adopt the doggie stance (oh-err missus), push up with your hands and then swivel 180 degrees.:D...

    Decent banksticks

Another vote for the fox cam lock power-point sticks Fox Powerpoint Cam Action Banksticks - Yateley Angling Centre. They come with a tommy bar to wind them in, there is not a flat on the insert stick so that you can twist them round to suit, and the cam is very secure. Oh...and no...

    A decent avon

Hi Ben I used to use a North Western 11ft 1.5lb which was just the job. This rod is gathering dust in my shed so if you fancy spending 25-30% of what you intend to spend on a Harrison.....then let me know if you want a waggle. BTW it's the two piece (which is harder to find that the...

    Gardner Hydro FLow Co Pol

Andy I use it in lower breaking strains (4lb & 6lb) for light ledgering for silvers. Very impressed, behaves well and spools nicely. Not thought about using in heavier strains for barbel .
