There certainly is a legal need. They will have a constitution, rules and a disciplinary procedure. If they haven't followed it and the guy hasn't contravened any of said rules, then I'm inclined to say they could be in trouble, if he chooses to do something about it.

I think the club needs to be careful. Basically they are discriminating against him. If that happened at my golf club (and something similar has) they would be taken to the cleaners. You can't just kick people out of a club because he's better than everyone else. What a load of old tosh.

They need to come out of very clean water to be edible. Often once caught they are kept in cages in fresh water to flush them out prior to selling.
