Well done David that sounds like a good choice. Keep us posted on how it performs. I've got the Drennan Ultralight 14' which is superb. Drennan make some lovely float rods geared towards silver fish at the moment.
I thought the Angling Trust was doing something for Salmon and Trout anglers with the Chalk Stream Charter and they are working very closely with the Salmon and Trout Trust:
Chalk Stream Charter.
What a nice surprise. Thanks to you all for the comments. It was in beautiful condition and certainly helps to make up for what has been a tough season.
If it ate a few chihuahuas we might get a slightly different response from the general public!
My personal view is the At said the right things. They didn't downplay the situation. They stated just how serious it was and that if no one was going to do anything about it and help the AT...
Well said Steve. I would also like to point out that the Angling Trust was only formed in the early part of 2009 and struggled for support from the outset, making it almost impotent in its early stages. Perhaps that's why they were unable to help in your case Daryl. I think we have seen them...
Lets not forget that without the AT's intervention that seal would still be there in three months time. No one else was interested, yet again. Just the same as anglers are not interested in their own future, particularly if they have to pay for it. Well luckily some of us are interested and...
Although clubs can be members, they really need individual memberships too. So if you do happen to be in a club which is a member, please don't let that stop you becoming an individual member. Its really important to consider this for the AT to be even more successful.
Well done Steve. This reinforces my belief that the more people that join the AT the more clout we as anglers will have. Another success story...well hopefully.
We faced yet another hopeless situation where everyone seems to just say "oh well what can we do" Well stuff that nonsense, the...
As has been touched on by Adrian, fish have been around for millions of years without really developing a great deal. They are a fairly basic life form. They rely on a basic survival technique. If you grab a fish it wriggles to get free. It would be just the same if it was grabbed by another...
Hi Rob, I think the reel (:p) problem occurs with lighter lines. I use mainlines down to 2.5lb. I think if you're using 4lbs+ and depending on line diameter of course, then those problems are largely eradicated.
I might add that you can't buy spare parts for these reels, so if you do loose...
The biggest downside to the Cortesi's are they are poorly made. The gap between the main housing and the spool is too great and line gets in behind the drum and tangles around the main pin and ratchet spring. Because of the cheap design you then have to unscrew the centre hub to remove the...
I'm sure you can get spares from Fishtec and if you do order a reel I would buy a spare spring. I've got someone making one for me so haven't been in touch with them.
I did a review on this reel on my blog (riverangler.wordpress.com)
They are very good and in my opinion a far better buy than the Cortesi. Since writing that review I have found that the ratchet spring is rather weak and prone to break. Despite that it is a very nice pin.
Hi Luke, I've been using one for quite a while. It's a nice sized reel that suits fishing on small to medium sized rivers. Seems to be very good quality. The clutch seems to be very good and I have no complaints about the reel. Daiwa products are normally very good.
