I thought the Angling Trust was doing something for Salmon and Trout anglers with the Chalk Stream Charter and they are working very closely with the Salmon and Trout Trust: Chalk Stream Charter.

Although clubs can be members, they really need individual memberships too. So if you do happen to be in a club which is a member, please don't let that stop you becoming an individual member. Its really important to consider this for the AT to be even more successful.

Hi Rob, I think the reel (:p) problem occurs with lighter lines. I use mainlines down to 2.5lb. I think if you're using 4lbs+ and depending on line diameter of course, then those problems are largely eradicated. I might add that you can't buy spare parts for these reels, so if you do loose...

The biggest downside to the Cortesi's are they are poorly made. The gap between the main housing and the spool is too great and line gets in behind the drum and tangles around the main pin and ratchet spring. Because of the cheap design you then have to unscrew the centre hub to remove the...

I'm sure you can get spares from Fishtec and if you do order a reel I would buy a spare spring. I've got someone making one for me so haven't been in touch with them.

I did a review on this reel on my blog (riverangler.wordpress.com) They are very good and in my opinion a far better buy than the Cortesi. Since writing that review I have found that the ratchet spring is rather weak and prone to break. Despite that it is a very nice pin.

Hi Luke, I've been using one for quite a while. It's a nice sized reel that suits fishing on small to medium sized rivers. Seems to be very good quality. The clutch seems to be very good and I have no complaints about the reel. Daiwa products are normally very good.
