The Yorkshire rivers that I fish are holding up well for whatever reason. There have always been otters even before the 're-introduction'; those involved obviously didn't ask the people who regularly sat quietly on the riverbank at dusk and saw them 30+ years ago. Not a great deal of stocking...
I've bought a few bits of theirs over the years, mainly for my overseas holiday fishing bags. Telescopic rods, weights, mackerel feathers etc. cheap as chips and perfectly serviceable for what I need. Like most brands there is some rubbish but overall it's half-decent stuff.
For those that do buy one, note that Angling Trust members can get them for £10 and it runs for 12 months from the date of purchase. I'll be getting one, I've got a stretch of the Shropshire Union on my doorstep which I've never fished as I didn't know who had the fishing rights. I prefer to...
River Nidd in North Yorkshire is the smallest barbel river that I fish. It has a lot of otters and mink, the barbel fishing is as good as I've known it in the 30 years that I've fished there. 10 years ago I'd go hoping to catch a barbel, nowadays three is my par score.
Many members will be aware of the plethora of specific river groups on Facebook, many of them open to all. It makes me shudder at the amount of detail frequently posted with photos; swim numbers, rigs, bait, captures etc. frequently with live updates. A poachers dream. I feel for the poor angler...
Hi Dave, don't know anything about Vilamoura but just a heads up in case you didn't know, you need a licence to fish from the shore. This is a separate licence to the one for the inland waterways.
I know that the Spanish are getting stricter on enforcement so might be best to be safe in...
I'm in Dubrovnik for a week, lots of big game angling boats. Anyone got experience or recommendations? Searched on Google and it appears to be 'inconclusive'. I'm not interested in tiddler bashing! Thanks in advance.
Certainly on my bucket list, I want to catch an arapaima before I'm too old and unfortunately my Amazon contacts are no more! I believe that they're stocked in some of the Thai lakes, maybe cheating a bit rather than catching a truly wild one but it'll do unless Jeremy Wade is willing to guide...
You might want to check on the licence/insurance requirements before pursuing it. Might get a tad expensive!

You would of course still be required to purchase club membership/day...
Didn't fish the Trent as much so numbers were well down but achieved my aim of upping my PBs on four Yorkshire rivers including a maiden Nidd double. Concentrated on areas that produced fewer but bigger fish, the plan worked.
Good memories for you Graham. We're on the Dee side of Wirral, all of the channels have largely silted up now this side so it's usually the Rock Channel (off Wallasey), Fort Perch rock, Eastham and Woodside for me.
The Mersey charter boats are now numerous, operating out of Liverpool marina at...
