    West Country Baits

As Anthony says. The elips are the same as Hinders elips. Highly recommended A few good local anglers my way use WCB with good results.

    Fish spotting glasses

John, All my fishing through the summer months right through to late October is visual barbel fishing on the Hampshire Avon. I have been using prescription Polaroids from Specsavers for at least 10 years. No doubt there are others that are as good and some here will recommend others are...

Stopping any further introductions would be a massive step forward, this would allow perhaps a natural balance to occur. I have personally stated before on here and elsewhere I have no problem with otters as they are not accountable for being introduced 'artificially' I do have a problem with...

Damian, Over the last 10 season I have averaged 71 fish per season with the best season in 08/09 with 108 fish and the worst in 10/11 with 40 fish. This would appear to show that my results are fairly inconclusive either for or against. What I am very concerned about is from 81 fish this...

It wasn't that many years ago when people were saying 'cormorants are protected' Thanks to a lot of hard work and lobbying this is no longer the case. Never say never and like Graham say's my main issue is people and groups not admitting this there is a problem, which seems to be no longer the...

Mark, don't think that the Hampshire Avon is bullet proof just because this report say's so. Although the fishing is still good, I have caught no fish under 6lb all season out of 81 caught. Why should the Avon survive when the BA, Cherwell, Lodden, Kennet, Stour, Ouse and Ivel to name but a...

Ea riverbank tree and vegetation habitat destruction..message to all.......

Hi Ray, It just mentioned that the trees had been removed and a lot of the debris was left behind and in the water. Can you let me know what it's like Ray? I believe the EA have been approached .........

Ea riverbank tree and vegetation habitat destruction..message to all.......

Ray, apparently the lower Stour at Meridians has been flattened, not a tree left by all accounts. I haven't seen it myself but read it elsewhere today.

    Help settle an argument

I echo everyone's comments and would also add that he had no right whatsoever in asking to see your club permits unless he is at least a member of said club. Way out of his jurisdiction. ATB

Rivers containing good heads of fish near Reading?

Daniel, I would suggest that '3 a season' is a little drastic. Although barbel numbers have tumbled on your local rivers kennet and Loddon over the last 10 years there are still good stretches that hold a good number of fish. As well as these 2 rivers you have the Hants Avon just over an...

    The next barbel river record

Having fished the Dorset Stour for over 30 years Stephen you're comments are way of the mark. With over 35 years of fishing the Hampshire Avon and Kennet also, let me assure you that Otters do much more harm to all fish that you 'assume' or are led to believe! Your local Throop fishery is a...

    Muckboots sale

Like Mark, both pairs of Arctic sport and tay sport lost their soles within a couple of years. Another pair I had gave me awful blisters on my heel as a bulge appeared inside on the heel on the right boot. IMO Muck boots are overated and overpriced. Surely I haven't been unlucky with all 3 pairs

what water temps will barbel still feed

Thanks for that info Mark. It's good to know the club are doing something about this. I was surprised to think that this club concerned would choose to ignore such a problem. I hope eventually the fish will spread out more during the winter months and hopefully the committee can manage this by...

what water temps will barbel still feed

I can't blame anyone for fishing for them Neil because some are just oblivious to the long term implications. It's really down to the committee/club to implement some rules rather than expect anglers to apply common sense. We don't all have much common sense :)

what water temps will barbel still feed

I do know the stretch concerned although have never fished it and was unaware that many of the fish were 'holed up' I find it quite unbelievable that the controlling club don't act on this. Surely it would be in the best interests of the fish, the fishery and the long term welfare of the...

what water temps will barbel still feed

David, quite possibly the temperatures down my way are generally higher than up North. That aside it's what the fish get accustomed to and it does not necessarily mean that the fish down South would be any more easier to catch in winter as further North. It's all relative as to what the fish are...

what water temps will barbel still feed

Interesting read and some very inspiring photos there. Certainly those anglers fishing the Severn, Wye, and Trent to name a few are more likely to catch during colder conditions than someone fishing lesser prolific rivers..... More fish... more chance of putting a bait on their nose. Rays...

    Kennet fishery question...

I believe the stretch you refer to is still under a syndicate to a handful of anglers. Its called Crookham manor or certainly used to be. I know a few of the members.

    Christchurch or Ringwood AA

Hopefully someone else can answer that one as I haven't stepped foot on there for a couple of years. ATB
