Many years ago I bought my G6 brand new. I've never replaced it and all the G range that superseded it didn't have the infrared remote & flip screen. How many pixels can the human eye appreciate? 7.1 million is more than enough in my opinion.
A brilliant camera!
If it takes 20 minutes for your barbel to recover then perhaps you should consider if you're using adequate tackle.
My local club, Ringwood and district have imposed a maximum of 15 minutes retention time.
Having said that common sense prevails and should a barbel require longer in warm...
A few ounces maybe but I wouldn't have thought that much. Personally I wouldn't retain a fish for 5 minutes let alone 25 minutes even if it was a British record.
No criticism, each to their own ;)
Well some may say that I am biased as I am tied in with Hinders but I certainly wouldn't plug a bait that was inferior. I
have used Hinders elips old and new for probably 25 years and have seen absolutely no change in their effectiveness from elips shape to cylindrical. I am privileged to live...
Not quite Rob but I know where you're coming from. I always fix a float stop above my lead to make it semi fixed to aid hooking. If I'm fishing for cagey fish in really clear water an in line pear lead is a must with a short tail. You haven't got that 'flex' as you have with a normal...
Haha....
Keith, I'm not sure what the evening plans are for the Saturday, hopefully a pub in Ross. The premier Inn is a good option and is only £38 for a twin room atm
I am waiting on some guidance from Graham.
That's kind of you Keith but this pro is struggling on the barbel front but like most normal guys has to balance the fishing with a 40+ hour week job
I have only spotted one barbel that was ravenous to feed whilst out walking before a night shift. On my return 4 days later she was...
I think you will find that some of the 'pros' that you refer to and that I know fish every day are still fishless after more than 2 weeks of the season gone. When these 'pros' find some willing fish they will pound them until they have caught them several times then become 'pros'
The Avon has...
If you are talking about pure milk based Stephen then fresh is best. Fishmeals are a little more forgiving but again always best to use as fresh as possible. Air drying as some say will prolong their life but I will only take enough baits straight from the freezer to use that same day. Any...
I've fished the Avon for over 30 years.
Harrisons are great.
Mark Tunley's craftsmanship superb as is Chris Wards from Waterlooville, Hampshire.....
You don't need a 1.75lb especially as you intend to roll meat.
Go for the 1.5lb, this will be more than capable of rolling meat or swinging a 4oz...
Darren, I hear its now devoid of fish or a best very few. I only know from the opposite bank which is/was syndicate. All the guys I know that used to fish it don't bother anymore. I'm sure you'll get feedback from others that may be more useful....
It doesn't appear to bother the well known anglers of the Avon Dave fishing every day so carry on.
It obviously has no impact on the fishes welfare so long as they are given the respect they deserve.
Regards John
Don't criticise unless you've tried it. I am privy to some pretty remote stretches of the Hampshire Avon which cannot be beaten for scenery & wildlife.
As Terry say's above, treat it as fun, you don't have to be a great angler to catch fish from there. I booked it for 48 hours last year with 3...
I'm not sure about salmon anglers of bygone days but modern day salmon anglers do not weigh their fish but estimate them from length.
I've seen barbel caught by modern day salmon anglers well over estimated.
If I would hazard a guess this probably happened many years ago that barbel were over...
Greg, I've got the Martin Bowler 1.75 drennans I bought last year for the Trent. Good for the Trent casting 3-4 oz leads 50-60 yards.
They're not much fun for the Avon and certainly not for the Stour.
I also bought a pair of the 1.25 twin tip duos just so get me through whilst my rods are being...
Possibly cost Mark as opposed to what they're worth.
See my post above. My Hardys are being rebuilt at a cost of between £160-£180 each.
I paid £300 each for them and IMO they are worth being rebuilt......
Regards
John
Sorry Peter, but these 2 rods you have would not be suitable for fishing the Hants Avon or Stour.
A great buy for someone on the Thames or Trent possibly
Greg,
I fish the same rivers as yourself and certainly a 1.25 or 1.5 t.c are ideal.
My Hardy 11ft 6 inch barbel rods are being completely rebuilt after 10+ years of good service. For what it's costing me I could buy a new pair of very good quality but these rods are part of me and I am reluctant...
