    Shimano XTEA 5000 Baitrunner

Had 3 since they were first introduced, only problem was sticky drags, entirely due to leaving them set at a hefty setting, just slacken them off(standard stuff, easily neglected!) and they are the dogs wotsits. peter

    Salmon

Oh well there goes another season, but it has been brilliant for me, 38 fish landed, 8 from the Test, 30 from the Itchen, hooked and lost at least 15 others, but thats fishing! peter

    Upstreaming With A Back Lead???

John, just payout some line, lower the rod, or both

    hook pulls

Hook size to bait size is fine, try using two boilies, stay with the 10,s, maybe lenghten the hooklink. peter

    Upstreaming With A Back Lead???

For clips I use gemini genie lead clips, the double ended ones, look like a shepherds crook at both ends, clip the lead to one end, line in the other. When the feeder hits bottom, keep the line tight, clip on the backlead, let it slide down to required position, rod in rest, job done. Takes a...

    do they go???

They can move miles, literally, so go hunting, start at big snag type features and any decent bends, if there,s cover, well worth checking out. peter

    What keeps doing this?

A decent roach can do that to a bait, if it was minnows, gudgeon etc I would expect all the corners to be whittled away, not just one side! peter

    Upstreaming With A Back Lead???

John, I tend to use the same setup for both up and downstream fishing, fluro hooklenght around 3feet, free running setup. In flood conditions, I,ve found the best way to use the upstream technique, is to keep the line tight after casting, clip on the backlead and drop it to the bottom of the...

    Upstreaming With A Back Lead???

I use the method frequently, especially in flood conditions, works a treat. The backlead helps in keeping the line out of the waterborn crud, the backlead has to be heavy, enough to pin the line down close in, 1-2oz is ok, coupled with a heavy feeder, bites tend to be a heavy thump and a big...

MONO line that doesn't turn into a spring??

Yep, all mono,s will coil up, when it gets too bad, just change it, unlike braid ,it has memory. Too help it sit properly on the spool, chuck the spool in HOT water, leave it for 15minutes, then load it onto your reel spool, leaving the spool in the water as you load up, best done outside as...

Introducing: The all new river chair!

Chub LO-lite works well for me, deals well enough with steep banks etc, maybe the front legs need to be a tad longer. peter

    What now!

Thats assuming the shrimps don,t get to them first, when their babies!!!!! There might be a positive side to yet another alien, they just might take out young signal crayfish? peter

    Flourocarbon

Krystonite is not pure fluorocarbon, but a coated mono! X-line is good stuff, pretty tough, the edge is OK, but not as good as X-line, using seaguar at the moment for salmon, seems good, no problems except the price? peter

Is there an alternative to Paper clips and Enterprise Snag Safe Lead Clips

OK, so try using the rotten bottom idea, but PVA the feeder swivel to the running swivel on the mainline prior to casting, the PVA string is strong enough to deal with the cast, and you only lose the feader if it gets snagged! It could be that the feeder is just too heavy, try fishing upstream...

    Salmon

Just back from another one of THOSE days, 8 fish landed(2 at 8lb) and one lost late on, a few missed takes, found one of the biggies, but a 6lber jumped on the bait and spooked it, but definately no complaints from me. Peter

    Salmon

Yes, the river is full of fish, lots of grilse, but there are some lumps lurking there, seen a couple that were 20lb +, and fresh fish arriving everyday. Just nice to see a river very much alive, I really enjoy watching the fish, catching them is bonus time. peter

    Float Rubber in Flood Conditions?

I often wondered about this, cannot see any benefits in fitting a stop above the lead, all of you who have stated that the run ring will pass over the stop are failing to take into account the debris build up, with any, even a small amount of crud on the stop, the ring cannot pass over it, the...

    Salmon

After some changes to presentation, managed to be in the right place at the right time today to put it into practice and how, 7 fish landed, 2 bounced off after a few seconds, all grilse to 7lb 8oz. Well chuffed with that, some big fish were seen too, but highly mobile, fresh fish, not settling...

    Typical bloody minded canoeist?

The welsh Assembly report, dated june 2010 ,states, "unless a public right of navigation exists, or the owner of the riverbed, and/or owner of the fishing rights where appropriate has given permission, then anyone who travels along the stretch of water is committing a trespass" and "we do not...

Why bother buying a EA rod licence?

Does make you wonder if its worth it, in the time since they were introduced in the Thames region, and then made national, I,ve had mine checked 4 times, all when fishing still waters, never on a river, either course or salmon fishing. At times I will fish with 3 or 4 rods, so thats 2 licencses...
