    flood water fishing in winter

The thing to consider, is why would a creature, perfectly adaapted to living in a flow, up sticks when the river rises??? From my own experience, certainly on the Thames, the fish stay put, yes they move in their normal rotation of chosen areas, but a good barbel swim remains a good barbel swim...

    Multiplier Reel Question

I,ve usd multipliers for years, all right handers, no problems, and I,am right handed. Recently I,ve bought a couple of left handers, which I use for salmon fishing, and after a brief, getting used to period find them far better, no more changing hands to cast etc. peter

    Bahamas or Florida Keys

There have been some major fish kills in Florida due to the cold weather, bonefish, snook and tarpon definately taken a bashing!Worth checking with skippers etc, not heard of any problems in the Bahamas, which sound like the best bet for bones! peter

    Fish Fight.

A very interesting, and by design shocking program. Well put together, and well presented. Some of the film in the second program of the mounds of dead skarks, manta rays, turtles etc were quite horrifying. Well after time that this global madness was highlighted, and hopefully, , changed to more...

    Trotting and Foul Hooking

Maybe you could try altering your feeding pattern, if you are feeding as you trot, the hookbait is running through with the freebies, so as the fish get stuck in, and they move about, they are more liable to pick up the line etc. If you feed as you retrieve, the hook is out of the way, as you...

    First fish of 2011

Caught my first fish of the year today, no ice on the lake, at last, first cast, pike 20lb 4oz, recast, 15lb 12oz. moved swim, a 6lber followed by a 14lb 10oz. That feels a lot better, absolutely soaked, but happy, the robins liked it too, munching the leeches off the unhooking mat! peter

    A tackle tarts rod

Maybe the Shimano Stella would be more suited, 5.7mtrs, rated upto 100lb BS line, going to need some gym time to be able to use it, but if you want some nice, shiny platinum weights to go with it,5oz probably £15000 each, bulk discount available!!!!!!!!!! peter

    Barbel baits for sea fish.

The one thing these baits have over conventional sea baits is purely convienience, not to mention lack of sticky/stinky residues. The only real way to give them a proper test would be to take them out on a boat and fish them alongside the usual squid etc. Would be an interesting test,if the...

    Barbel baits for sea fish.

Worth a try, might be inclined ,if cod were the target, to go along the lines of the catfish approach and use a big bait, 5/6 20mm pellets on the hook(hair). Cod are not exactly subtle in their feeding habits, and a big bunch of halibut pellets will give a much better scent trail. Give it a...

    yet another line

Clive if it is P-line reincarnated, then its not all that , nice and fine in diameter, soft, but abrasion resistance is poor, X-line is far tougher! peter

    yet another line

Might have a look at it, been using X-line for years, got used to its abilities in most areas , this stuff sounds a lot better, might give it a try a hooklenghts for salmon, a 1000mtr spool should last 10years, far cheaper than £20 for 50 mtrs of riverge etc peter

    Shore Tope Record

Paul, just go a little further NW, Dinas Dinille on the southern end of the Menai, they certainly show there, and you can wade through the bass & rays whilst your waiting! peter

    Shore Tope Record

Thats a real specimen, would be a right handful off the shore, fun though! There are are a few marks in the SE that produce the odd fish, but they are not fished for generally, be an interesting excercise to target them, late May to july, same time as the smoothies show. If you fancy a go, get...

Environment Agency Provides Consent to Massacre Eels on the Trent

Yep, the good old EA, supporters of commercial interests, no regard for individual anglers, or it would seem the law?, The Salmon & freshwater fisheries act, doesn,t that state thats its illegal to inhibit or stop the migration of fish?(certainly salmon), this scheme and no doubt many more would...

    rivermonsters again

Another good watch, look forward to the hour long version tommorrow. A true river monster indeed, 130lb class gear in a river, and needing it too, looks like very hard work, not sure thats going on my "must do" list though!!! peter

    The eel

And I wonder how many of the Avon,s all too rare salmon fall foul to these nets and are spirited away??????? For an organisation trying to preserve and enhance all things fishy, they seem to have a rather screwed up list of priority,s! peter

    The eel

Bizarre, for less than the price of a rod licence, you can slaughter eels wholesale, yet for the price of a rod licence you can,t take one!!!!!!! What idiots thought of that, and why was elvering not stopped altogether? So much for conservation! peter

    River monsters 7.30 ITV tonight

Just watched the longer version, far more interesting, just a good watch, no hype, no promotion of the latest "must have" tackle, just a very good view of real adventure fishing, fancy some of that, just need a month or so, an arm full of jabs and tons of cash!!!!!!!!!! peter
