    Slugs for bait

Don,t ignore snails, the fish in my pond prefer them, whether crushed shell or whole, easy to keep, damp, dark place, with plenty of green stuff to eat, always fresh. peter

    Hummingbird smartcast

Definately an excellent tool for feature finding, a word of warning though, attach a heavy leader(100lb mono or wire), pike do like to chew them up especially when retrieved! peter

    Soft flurocarbon????

Beware the ambitious BS claims, most Fluro,s are overstated by 20% or so . !5lb X-line breaks around 12.5lb or so, most of the others are similar, also some strangulation type knots are a no-no, ie the 5 turn grinner. I use a 4 turn Mahseer knot, very reliable and a fig.8 loop knot is good. Buy...

    Rolling pellets

Just make up a stiff pellet paste and roll that, works a treat! peter

    Berkley Nanofil

I certainly wouldn,t trust it with expensive lures or anything else for that matter, tried every concievable knot, even the recommended one, breaks on the knot or where ever it fancied, cracked off casting with a lead already 5o mtrs out, snap, no obvious bedding in!!! Another quality...

    Ted Carter Floodwater

Got a pair of the 2.25TC rods, nice bits of kit, very powerful. The £155 for a twin top version sounds OK, provided the tops fit OK, might be an odd, fast taper type action with the lighter top on the heavy butt?? peter

    Recently Locked Thread

We have all heard the horror stories, fish taking en-mass, netting etc, but who has actually seen any of this activity???? I,ve seen plenty of EE types fishing in gangs, barbies going etc, but I,ve never seen a fish caught except for one jack pike, which was unhooked, photographed and...

'How to Destroy UK Rivers' - The Movie

The EA are on another planet when it comes to doing whats right for our troubled rivers, the latest from the EA, published article in the AT october 11th. Salmon fishing has been stopped on all Hampshire rivers due to low water etc. Considering the season finished on the Test & Itchen(mentioned)...

'How to Destroy UK Rivers' - The Movie

I witnessed these boats in operation on the Test, makes one hell of a mess, but doesn,t create the required end result.Hand cutting is far more selective, creating channels etc, but leaving plenty of cover, the boats are far quicker, and can operate beyond safe wading limits. Whats needed is a...

    Weed problem

A clip on backlead used with a long hooklink works, most of the dead weed is high up in the water, so dropping your line down helps. peter

    At last a big Perch!

Stunning looking fish, great photo too, well done. Definately a species on my "must try" list. peter

    Pulled out

Maybe your problem is hook size, in relation to bait size? Too big, and the weight of the hook will inhibit bait movement and hooking potential, I always opt for smaller sizes, rarely going above a ten, even on largebaits, ie 2x 18mm boilies. peter

    Polish fisherman

Its all well and good having the new fishery laws, signs in many languages, etc, but if they are not enforced it is just pointless. The EA officers are virtually non existant, and seem to concentrate on commercial fisheries, that volume of man-hours could be reduced by making it a legal...

    Using a back lead

I use gemini lead clips (seafishing), attach appropriate weight with garden wire so it can pull off if snagged, used them for years with no problems, for cheap weights I use ball leads, and as many as needed just threaded onto the garden wire and bend the end to hold, trim any excess, simple. In...

    Hair stops for meat?

I use the tubing on the hair , stopped with any handy thin twig etc, cut to lenght with scissors, using bacon grill or similar tough meats, it will stand a big cast with a heavy lead. peter

    Weymouth Dorset

Why not have a go for mullet and bass, much closer, or go slaughter mackerel on chesil beach, fun on light gear, taste good too! Barbel rods will cope with those. peter

    The PB thread

Mine,s an awesome fish of 15lb 3oz, caught january 16th 2007, from the lower Thames, 70mph winds, rain, 13c, a real highlight to what was simply the best barbel fishing I,ve ever experienced(piccy somewhere in the archives on here?), 98 fish, 21doubles, 50 9lb + tremendous fishing, I,d very much...

    The illusive Eton Fisheries?

Good luck to those who buy a ticket, it will cost significantly more to park, and the insurance excess will hurt when your motor gets nicked or trashed, which is a real probability, especially overnight, lovely place, shame about the scum who frequent it!!! peter

    Clipped up?

I usually fish one rod to a fixed position(well a far bank marker) casting on the same line ,but distance will vary slightly, the other rod fished in a search pattern, starting downstream of the "fixed "rod, then moved every half hour or so, no need for clips, they just add an unnecarsary...

    New rod advice

Had a play with a new Drennan, 1.75lb tc the other day, very nice, £110 or so, proper rod, might look at a pair of those soon! peter
