    No passion for angling?

Great thread, and if I may, there seems to be more emphasis on tackle as opposed to just going fishing with a rod and a few bits of tackle and doing the simple things well, like river craft and second guessing where that Barbel or Chub will be intercepting you bait. I see so much emphasis on...

    New rods

If you have to go down the custom route fair enough, but flinging out feeders or leads on such rivers don't call for expensive gear. Korum 1.75 or 2.0 t.c 12 ft rods 4000/5000 reels all in about £400. The barbel are not fussy.

    New ticket anyone

Hi Paul, Just noticed your surname of Bromilow, that was my mothers maiden name, her Dad was I believe originally from Lancashire and was a well known publican in North Wales. Anyway good luck with your renewed passion, I hope you get one soon.

How did everyone’s day one go ?

The Severn despite some extra water looked a bit off Barry, not surprised you struggled. A couple of lads told me they gave up on Bridgenorth and re routed to Warks Avon. The Wye also looked the same

How did everyone’s day one go ?

It was too hot by the time I got myself up, so decided to go this evening to the Warks Avon. River was low and clear but seen it worse. I managed to winkle out a lovely conditioned towards dusk, 8 lb ish, it headed straight for the rushes and I thought that's some chub, but it morphed into...

    Barbel spawning this morning ....

By young fish I suppose they are smaller males, well hopefully, recent years have seen larger unattached females be the main inhabitants, and a distinct lack of males. This is very encouraging, I love seeing Barbel spawning, but I haven't seen that for years, last was Teme, and the Bristol Avon.

    Mishap

Poor bugger...bad timing but at least you saved the rod albeit injuring yourself in the process. However flesh repairs itself but not smashed carbon so chin up. Depending on what you have done ie tear sprain or snapped hamstring you should be 'back on the grass' in about six weeks. 😏

    Unhooking mat

So if we have a mat we are first and foremost caring after our fish? I prefer to unhook etc with the fish in the net, barbel not as tough as carp, and have seen too many belly up barbel sadly.

    Cheese Flavours

100% Derek. Was watching the Chris Ponsford's excellent big Chub you tube offering again today, fishing the WA near me, he simply wrapped some Cheddar I think it was from the Co op, around a boilie to snag some huge Chub. Anyways cheese or not worth watching the Pons in full flow. Nice rod btw.

Dog spike I use, very secure can get at any pet store. Make sure you get a quality rope such as climbing quality.

    Float visibility

Tell me about it Barry, what a very very strange place that is....onelastcast.

    Float visibility

On the BAA forums this very subject came up this week. A very respected match angler was having problems seeing his waggler far bank. He eventually tried some silver foil from his Kit Kat wrapper, scrunched it up to form multiple mirroring, rolled it and secured a piece to the tip of float with...

Protect hares and their young from shooting during the breeding season

We back on to fields, we see Hares very often and would be of a murderous intent if we saw anyone shooting them. We have enough to contend with the reality that 'our' Pheasants are shot for fun, but at least there is a close season. Signed, and thanks for highlighting Tel.😐

    Absolutely Gutted

the Neil many tears ago I with Mum and Dad used to holiday to Mum's parents who ran pubs in Bangor, I seemed to remember a Kings Head pub and one with the Dee adjacent that I mentioned I 'fished' , perhaps that could be the Royal Oak? But a lovely part of the world, remember stopping off on the...
