I am a bit confused (not unusual) I don't see where any fixed spool reel can have 10 bearings in it, where will they go? there are not that many moving parts on a reel, does the advertising blurb mean that the reel has 10 ball bearing (round steel bits inside a bearing) rather than 10 bearings?
I have joined but have reservations about other groups appearing that will only fragment any arguments made by anglers to many cooks etc.
I am also concerned that already on this thread comment about the otter petition has been made which imo is not called for, it looks as if some members of...
Places such as the UK can do their bit but its a drop in the ocean when from what I read 90% of the plastics in the oceans comes from just 10 rivers with the Yangtze being the worst dumping 1.5 million tonnes every year, it needs a worldwide change in attitude to stop this and imo the only way...
70% flushed out of rivers by floods still leaves a heck of a lot in rivers, if that's the amount that's flushed during each period of high water will there will be a gradual build up that wont be flushed?
It has been my experience that the majority of the none angling public couldn't care less about anglers, they know nothing of the problems we have with pollution and predation and care even less, what answer do you think you would get if you asked someone not involved in angling what they...
To be honest Joe I couldn't care less if there are people out there that don't approve of angling, they are professional complainers who having tried to ruin someone's enjoyment and failed move on to something else, they are the sort that would think it was ok to liberate Mink.
PRN is a public right of navigation.
I did read your post Joe and didn't quote you verbatim my apologies, my experiences with dogs and paddlers are it seems different so our opinions are going to be different, the biggest reason for abolishing the CS for me is that there is no evidence that...
Joe can something imperfect be any use to any wildlife? what we have bears no resemblance to why the closed season was introduced, fish spawn well before and well after it, if we were to try and cover all spawning situations the season would be very short and have to take into account the...
Joe have you seen the damage that paddlers can do to spawning redds? I have seen them stopping mid river and walking about on the gravel that the Barbel spawn on, this where there is no PRN, who is there to stop them? Its not just paddlers that I have seen on gravels but fly anglers wading on...
I haven't noticed a season for paddlers Joe legal or otherwise.
The closed season is so ridiculous that while one cannot fish a river during it moving a few yards to inside a marina that's connected to the river will see you fishing perfectly legally. Guess where the fish go during floods :)
Dog walkers still walk dogs paddlers still paddle and the wildlife just get on with doing what they do regardless of it all ( unless spawning redds are paddled and waded on) if having no closed season has such an effect on wildlife I have yet to see what it is.
Looks like what they call "combat fishing" in the states and Canada, more anglers on that stretch than can be found on 5 miles of most English rivers.
No scientific studies were done before the closed season was abolished on still waters, I am hoping that this study that has been done on...
Jason nothing in there is much of a surprise, imo Gove should have told those present that legislation to force them to clean up their act and stop profiteering is already being worked on and will be implemented should they not do so, unfortunately he cant because he knows that some of his...
Discharge from treatment plants still contains diffuse pollution as nothing is done to remove it from the river water they treat.
Not trying to put the blame on anyone other than those involved in water treatment and those that have the powers to force water companies to remove it including...
Water companies, the EA and the government are aware of problems that exist in our rivers and have been for quite some time. The EA produced a report as long ago as 2007 entitled "The Unseen Threat To Our Water Quality" it includes the WFD as a tool to tackle diffuse pollution, this is just a...
Its a nice idea Joe but not one that I can see happening, maybe if the public knew what was in the water they drink things might change but I have doubts about even that.
2/3 years ago they agreed to take 4 million to take on work that the EA should be doing.
What can they do to attract more members? I can only speak from a personal point of view,
1 stop taking money from thames water as sponsorship for their riverfest matches. I have never liked hypocrisy...
