I thought you might have been - we had lunch their with friends, it was a tad busy, pub that is - there was no one on the Biblins or Newport waters and probably won't be this week given the weather...
Howard you should have had you family down at the Saracen's yesterday - at least you could have looked at the river knowing full well it was the best day to fish as the snow was coming in and the temperatures plummeting...
Richard I think the unexplainable were catfish - i hooked something once on boilie that stripped 50m off the reel upstream in seconds and had me stumbling up the bank after it before the inevitable happened. Steve came down that weekend and we had a chat and agreed it must have been a moggy...
I was a member on and off - tried to contact Steve Hitch to find out what happened to no avail. So got in touch with the farm and they just said there was now no river fishing and no access to the river but i could fish the ponds/lakes. We went to a dog show last summer and where once you could...
The insurance for something liked this will run into the 000's a year and it is likely that any settlement will be in cash as new for old ain't going to cut it...but this is irrelevant compared to the emotional impact on the poor guy. When my first lot of gear was stolen they took a cane and...
John with all the govt has to worry about i cannot see this as a decision from on high... Knowing the area myself you are right about the economy but it is November and the place is more or less shut down except for hardy souls who like beach walking...
With all respect John & Jon, no it isn't understandable - it is about twice the size of a domestic cat so not exactly a 'maneater'. So how is it a danger to the public? Armed hunters with night vision gear are not employed to shoot dangerous dogs, they are 'captured' first and then 'destroyed'...
I suppose technically the swims we sit in are not on the public right of way and we just use these paths to get to them on some stretches? My missus often says why don't you take the dogs for company-- that will be all 4 of them all who love swimming; she doesn't get the quiet, contemplative...
Dave
Not that i would wish to contradict Graham, but Ross AC rules state no dogs, except the bailiffs, on any water - so even where there is a public footpath/DT you cannot fish with your dog as company I'm afraid.
Cheers
Paul
Steve I remember 40, just about...for me it was all about work/career and i did not get to fish that often looking back, which was a mistake. So as the future is a big unknown make the most of it, certainly fishing wise, as time allows... you never know the Somerset levels might be one big lake...
Mark - cannot say we considered Dorset/Hamps as we wanted some land and have about an acre with a fairly large house which cost more or less the same as a 3 bed terrace in Oxon. Also i think the house prices down towards the Jurassic coast are higher than they are here and add traffic etc plus...
Mark - i also moved to Herefordshire about 21 months ago from Oxfordshire. What is interesting is that this is one of the most sparsely populated counties in England (180,000) and is dominated by Hereford (60000). It also has one of the highest 'older' populations with c24% who are 65+ yet it...
