    The state of our rivers

I am lead to believe that Fish Legal are talking to the BBC tomorrow about the state of the Wye...if I hear anything will post.

    The state of our rivers

As a club we wrote to our MP, who forwarded the letter to the EA, here is part of their response 4. What specific actions are the EA currently taking to address the currently well documented algal blooms on the River Wye? Algae occur naturally in inland waters such as rivers, streams and...

    The state of our rivers

An interesting, disturbing but not surprising to us on the forum article in today's Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/aug/12/government-britains-rivers-uk-waterways-farming-water-companies?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Outlook

    Hooklength/ Hair- rig storage

If you want to travel light and shove hooks, scissors etc in a pocket try these - photo is poor but I have bought a few and they are better quality than the other similar products on ebay; same as Terry's link but in green - bloody quick service as well...

    Algal bloom on the Wye

Had a walk by the river today - not as bad as it was in the main flow, margins still cloudy in places and river level is slightly up on what it has been.

    Needed warm waterproof boots

Suffering from neuropathy for 6 years I cannot let my feet get cold as it is agony and makes walking problematic so have tried most types/many brands of boot but if you are sat for 3 hours plus there is little that I have come across that can keep my feet warm. The best to date is the Muck...

    Sad News

Just to inform all who fish/ have fished the Wye around Ross that Kev who runs Wye Angling in the town has been diagnosed with advanced terminal cancer. As a result the shop will close down this Saturday June 15th. The end of an era for the town.

    Streamer weed

The Wye seems to have more weed than in the last 20 years or so I am being told - difficult for salmon angling on some stretches at the moment. Will be interesting at the start of the season re canoeing and coarse angling.

    What's your honest assessment?

Interesting article in the Observer yesterday about UK predators starting to thrive except for foxes (rabbit virus) and badgers. Current estimate 11000 otters but no comparative data. Article ended noting anglers’ concerns. Without our interference ecosystems over time reach a balance...

    What's your honest assessment?

Had a young otter in my swim yesterday on the Wye…whatever one might say, they are magnificent creatures. I, for one, think our rivers are better with them, however, not perhaps in the number there are currently. Whether they are the major cause of fish decline is still, I think, open to...

    Angling Trust scandal !!!

Here are AT's last year's accounts ( bit of an url...) for those of you with an interest in such thngs ...page 4 last section on income makes for interesting reading (the same statement appears each year it seems) -- no mention of Drennan, who I am sure on seeing this statement would ask...

    River Wye day ticket

Re canoes - at Kerne Bridge commercials tend to launch between 9-10 am and 1.30-2.30. Would advise anyone to use the Worcester car park as the parking at Bishopswood Hall/car park is now chargeable (this is all part of the development of the canoe launch which i wont get into yet but is the...

    River Wye day ticket

Just to note the upper section of Bishopswood is not day ticket - it is for Worcester club members only. The figures i have seen to date suggest more canoes this year than last but not surprising given the weather. Most canoeists seem to be sensible and often even stop paddling and drift...

    Double Standards

The Wye and Usk view - copied from the news section of their website; without comment In More Hot Water The Wye and Usk Foundation Ten days ago the first rainfall of any note for three months arrived in this part of the UK. It was barely enough to raise the rivers but water temperatures were...
