Terry we have boar where i live - same scenario as otters they are like 'marmite' - I like them and no they haven't destroyed my 'garden' yet, may be because i have quite a few dogs so they stay away, but the deer have and that is something i have to live with for choosing this place or should i...
Lawrence you know that is a silly comparison - foxes are not protected but otters are...and as for farmers having chicken coups you clearly have a pre-war view of the make up of modern day farms 😁
Lawrence I have no problem with the suggestions you have made, except perhaps sterilisation, if it is proven that otters are the significant cause of fish death on specific waters. The problem is the devastation has to happen for the proof required, given we do not have the evidence required -...
As for para 1 - there may be a few but what most seem to say is we need much better evidence to be able for a case against otters to have any impact - a narrative of 'otters are killing lots of fish so should be culled' gets us nowhere, it is what otters do to survive and yes they may be picky...
Lawrence there is the thread on here about the cormorant, which are resident on the stretch of the Wye I fish...I suspect a balance has been achieved re their number but cannot give any hard evidence, clearly they eat fish as do gooseanders are there does seem to be an increasing number of those...
I get the law bit but as someone who used to fish Thames tributaries i do not recall seeing any images anywhere of frequent fish kills by otters on the Windrush, further downstream mink were more of an issue but not as much as crays...I probably missed the photos. I am also struggling with...
So why did he not take photos and send to the relevant authorities? What i struggle with is if otters are so destructive in such a short period of time, why are we not finding masses of dead fish along the banksides? We get the occasaional photo but not what we might expect given the...

Devastation of the River Lugg
Friday 4th December, 2020
Yesterday the news broke of the destruction of 1.5km of the river Lugg at Kingsland in Herefordshire. The widespread disbelief and dismay at what has happened to this much loved and highly protected river is shared...
Rob i didn't think you were but i get it if folks do and am not offended (£200 quid for socks 😂 - actually more like £60 for socks - £140 for batteries) - they ain't cheap but neither is a Mark Tunley custom built rod - does it mean you catch more, nope, does it add to the pleasure, undoubtedly...
Yep they were two hundred quid but as i said i have tried everything including cheaper electric socks ( socks fall down/batteries are awkward) and the have all been ineffective for my specific needs (anyone on here who suffers badly from neuropathy will know what cold does). So today sat by the...
As i have said before I cannot allow my feet to get cold as the pain swiftly follows and have tried nearly all types of boot to no avail, currently on the Arctic outpost muckboots which are the most expensive - I am sure they used to say the lowest temperature but not any more. These have great...
I've never understood why a Chris Brown type has not produced 'the chair' for river anglers - of course it would be a premium price but we'd pay that...dreading the day when my Korum finally falls apart.
Used mine for chub fishing until it was stolen about 10 years ago - obviously still a market for them then - replaced by insurance company with the newer version, which remains in its box.
I do not use the runner facility on my reel as I hold it as the rod can go flying in on the Wye but, and maybe i am being a bit thick, i would have thought that the bait runner when used always allows some line to be pulled off however tight as isn't that the point? However, runner off and...
Cadence CR10 4000 - I use for trotting on the Wye (6/8lb line) - cracking light reel, will match the power float rod well - I use it with the Cadence 14' #3 great balance.

Bought a set of digital scales in mid July as i lost faith in my flyweights and a new sling as the Gardener was starting to fall apart after years of use - haven't caught a fish worth weighing since 😀
