What are your targets for the new season?

I have more wishes than targets. I wish we could have seasons like we used to 30 years ago. (looks like we're heading for zero rainfall in the east for April) I wish abstraction could be put back to what it was 30 years ago. I wish pollution could be put back to what it was 30 years ago. I...

Lone Angler Trefor West Chub Rod

My first true carbon barbel rod was a New Dawn. It too had a removeable tip ring, and came with a choice of two quiver tips that you could slip on. Are New Dawn rod company still a thing?

Pretty but generally fruitless last of the season day on the GO.

    Fitting Isotopes

Re painting the rod top white, best not use gloss as it reflects light. For years I've just used Tippex, as it's simple to apply and easy to clean off and reapply and being matt, absorbs light, thus shows up better in low light.

    Best lightweight umbrella?

I have the Fox and it IS an excellent product, though it doesn't fit into any of their quivers. I eventually bought an Aqua quiver., which is a perfect fit. Let's face it, if you are out on the bank on a wet and windy day, roaming isn't really a fun thing to do.

Not my type of fishing, mad rush for prime pegs, hammered and a bit of a circus if you ask me.

    Barbel migration

They did a survey similar to this on the Gt Ouse some years ago. They tagged fish and followed their movement. Similar results. One problem was that they found very few barbel in this river. I wonder why. 🤔

    Chris Packham

So a pescatarian is a person that eats fish, but not meat. My son-in-law doesn't eat any fish, but does eat meat, does this make him a carnivore? No, he is an omnivore, because he eats everything else, bar fish and seafood. This new label 'pescatarian' is ridiculous. A person that eats fish...

    Your first barbel photo

I never fished the Chew, or even downstream of Bath, bar Saltford once or twice. The swim against the fence at Haydens was a bagging swim, over to the far bank. What are the chub and roach stocks like now?

    Your first barbel photo

Goodness, I lost count of the fish I had along there. Up in the spinney was a swim with a reedbed, where you could wade out and trot through the funnel. Great sport with roach, dace, chub and barbel. Generally fishing hemp and tares.

    Habitat destruction

That will help with bank erosion. Excellent. "It is understood the trees at water level were deemed to be creating a flood risk by catching debris and restricting the flow of water. The area is due to be sown with a wild flower seed mix and replanted with native trees." So the original...
