    Dead baiting.

Sorry Richard but after posting that fine example can you please explain how its wrapped. Do you up and down then wrap over and then go back through the wire at the bottom ?

    Crucians only

Hope you get a few, this is what they used to be like. You can see my pole in the background I never used it at length. It had to be ready if a better Tench was hooked and ran too far. Normally it was 4 sections of pole or less. If you have a long rod it should be ok

    Crucians only

When plumbing up I found a depression in front of every swim on Harris when the complex opened. I used to plumb up and then put the pontoon over the depression. Not sure if a pontoon is allowed these days though. The Bailiff said that when they dug the lake the margins were too shallow for...

    Crucians only

I caught a lot of very big Crucians at Marsh farm when it first opened fishing double caster under a small pole float. There was no cover at the time so I created my own. Two 9ft rod tubes were connected by 3 rows of 3 dustbin bags. My 'pontoon' was then floated out from the margin and staked in...

    Quiver tipping for chub

Oliver, it would not make much difference if you are fishing heavy tackle like 4lb line and a 16 hook and getting bites and fish. But when your bites dry up and your chub become a bit educated or wary finessing everything is often the way to go. A Chub pulling a hook home against a heavy feeder...

    Quiver tipping for chub

Sorry the dink dink is a different method again to the inline black cap with short hook length. Its designed to take fish that are taking maggot coming down through the water and not going near a feeder. Your feeder is in a loop with the hook tied to the bit of line on the knot above the feeder...

    Quiver tipping for chub

Yep you have got it exactly, the starting point should always be a feeder that just holds bottom. You can often make a feeder that bounces along hold up by doubling the bow, its always a balancing act.

    Quiver tipping for chub

Because you are fishing a short hooklength and inline feeder you can get all sorts of bites. If you are fishing a bow, even after casting downstream, effectively you are fishing upstream (the bottom of the bow will often be below the feeder ). But you have to be consistent with your bow. It...

    Maggot/Groundbait Flavourings

I use Mainline Response pineapple flavour in my casters. I put about a cup full of water in a bait box then a few drops of Pineapple, stir it around and add the casters. I have changed from normal casters to flavoured a number of times and almost immediately started catching good Roach. Garlic...

    Spineless EA again

Back in the close season last year our Bailiffs found an unattended rod fishing from a house on the opposite bank to one of our waters. Video evidence was taken of everything. They managed to snag the line which had big lead bolt rig, very heavy line and boilies. The drag was loose and we...

    Line choice

I get my big roach on the 010 Graham , also had about 50 Barbel since November on the 010. Its an amazing line, I do wrap the spade ends 20 times though.

    Line choice

Not sure how good it is for mainline though Dave and 100m lasts me a lot of hooklengths. The stroft GTM I use is an off clear line, I know they do a number of different colours though but have not been tempted to look at anything else yet. I was thinking about posting a thread about it on the...

    Line choice

Round shot bitten onto the line weakens it slightly. If they are stuck in place and catch in a snag the line breaks easier. If the styl leads all move up the line to the knot they seem to not cause as many problems and I get broken less.

    Line choice

I use a hook length because its easier to tie on a new hook length than a whole new set up and a new float. Four years ago I started using Stroft GTM as a hook length its a slightly grey / clear line. I have used Preston powerline, Preston exceed and Silstar match team as hook lengths. I rate it...

    SAD REALISATION

Oh Edward, what I have heard recently about the Windrush must be soul destroying. I often fished the section down to the confluence with the Thames back in the 80's. Crystal clear fast flowing water with Barbel drifting between the wonderful streamer weed. I once won a match fishing the last...

    SAD REALISATION

Lets be honest fishing all over the country unless well looked after or heavily stocked has gone down the pan the last 30 years. The Trent is fishing its nuts off because of the hundreds of thousands of Barbel stocked by Calverton over the last 30 years. The tiny upper Lea stretch is an...

    Fishing mishaps

Did it last year also after dark, rested my Chimera and landing net pole on the side of my car whilst I put the rest of my gear in the boot. I always put the rod and pole in the front seat. Got home and No rod, drove back to my car park and there was the rod and landing net pole lying in the...

    Cherwell

In the 80's we were told he lived in the big Manor house with the lake and swimming pool on the right as you walked down the alley to the canal at Shipton. There was a pair of Irish wolf hounds that would often escape and be bouncing around. In summer almost every weekend live bands would be...
