I bought a pair of the originals in 2.25lb from Phil Maggs a few years ago, they're all I use now no matter which water or state of levels.
If the new models are as good, then they're going to be great!
I think the key word was budget, the gardners, although bombproof aren't what I'd call a budget alarm.
Most tackle shops have cheap alarms on the shelf...
I was under the impression that eastward flowing rivers, that were historically connected to mainland europe were natural barbel territory.
I don't know if the Tees, Wear or Tyne fall into that category, I reckon the Humber estuary definitely would and certainly the more southern waterways...

I also have a pair of DL standard builds and whatever rings they are as standard, the action is perfect.
Without trying to come across as a contrary Mary, I can't see any rings drastically compromising the action of a decent blank??

I've just checked out the DV landing nets. Does anyone use the 24" or 28" version that are shallow. I've just returned from the Trent where the bankside rocks could be a problem with deeper nets.
I did manage a solitary 5lber over two days.
Also; are the DV extending handles any good?
