Jeepers. That's putting the big into big game fishing that is. Were the bites those sensitive ones, where you are not sure if its the wind or a bit of seaweed hitting the line? Sitting on your hands until you get a more positive indication, something worth striking at?
Hi Gavin, this won't help with your question I know, but did you look at Madeira? It's worth a look if not. Relatively short flight from a big game fishing perspective and some fantastic fishing and the prospect of monster fish. It's other big plus is that you don't have to wait long to get...
I've no doubt that a genuinely objective test would reveal the small performance or function gaps between rods designed to do a particular job. But it's a business and the full weight of the corporate machine comes into play. The great thing is that there is enormous variety to suit pretty much...
I should say that the maggots fired in were aimed mostly at me (blaming the wind wasn't fooling anyone) so in retaliation I caught the only chub in the swim. I though we might have a visit from the resident but angry barbel that lives at the end of the trot on the edge of an overhanging bush...
As Graham mentions, I managed a few nice chub yesterday (after Graham had kindly baited the swim for me with bread!) which isn't an exceptional event by any stretch of the imagination. But I returned home with a spring in my step and simply because I had finally managed a few hours on the bank...
Jeff, you can obviously look on the BS website as Derek suggested and a quick use of the search button on this forum and I suspect you will have all you need.
I haven't fished their bit of the Trent but by all accounts it as fished incredibly well over the last few seasons. I have fished...
I'm not sure its purely a generation thing, I think its down to the part work has played in your life which is what makes the impact of retirement so varied. There is also the pension position of course and how that impacts on what you are actually able to do during retirement.
Yes Phil and I can imagine it is. One of the issues with retirement it seems to me, is it's rather abrupt nature. Generally speaking there seems to be little in the way of a phased transition unless you are lucky enough to reduce your days for a period before leaving all together. It will...
It sounds to me Paul like you need to give yourself more time to acclimatise to retirement. Unpicking 40 years of the pressure you have endured through work is going to take time but I'm sure it will come. I certainly hope so for my own sake as I predict being in a similar situation in the next...
I have also recently moved to the Wye Valley Paul but still work in Reading/London and despite the Wye being on my doorstep, I have had little time to fish it. I'm looking forward to next season though and life settling into some sort of rythm. The Kennet was becoming something of a head banger...
What more information are you looking for? I imagine it was caught from a river, using a baited hook and what not. And judging by the photo I saw, it was caught during darkness which would put the capture and somewhere between 5pm and 7.30am I recon, give or take 20 minutes. Great looking fish.
Hi Robin and you are right, things on the Kennet would have changed and many would say profoundly so. You are looking at a much smaller population of fish but there will now be some bigger girls about. There wont be large shoals of fish and so for me, this means that techniques based around...
Thanks chaps. The general intended use would be with a maggot feeder and principally for chub/silvers during autumn/winter and in non flood conditions. Cast may need to be quite far and a degree of sensitivity in the tip would be good. I was imagining reel line of around 6lb or so. Of course...
Hi Jonathan and this is a very good question and I think the answer very much depends on the bed. A super king size bed smothered in the finest cotton sheets and squishy pillows would, in my view, mean that temps would need to be 15+ to get me to the bank. Factor in a team of eager lady acrobats...
