...reminds me of the Fast Show too; where the guy with string for a belt keeps coming out of his shed and announcing that "mostly today I will be talking b******s" Patrick.
"In my experience bait choice comes a distant third after location and presentation."
Have to agree with Richard Parsons on this. There's no replacing the graft, reading the conditions and that little bit of luck.
"thats the rrp - on ebay theyre going for 50 quid (ish)"
Narrow drum speedia went for £26 + postage a couple of days ago, but granted often around the £30 - 50 mark for narrow.
edit: Yep TFG reel on ebay is £55 ish buy it now price so acknowledge I misread the rrp as the price Paul was...
If you wanted to go more old school go for a Speedia or Rapidex, the narrow drum version of the Speedia would cost about the same £30 on ebay. I thought the marco cortessi reel was good value but when the pawl fell out on a strike... well I haven't forgiven it, nor used it since. Just noticed...
A thumb full of paste tightly around the hook bait and then perhaps a few broken pellets and hemp seed mix squeezed onto that - the aim being that it'll disintegrate and break away over time in the water. And with that, no loose feed whatsoever is my preference on the smaller rivers I fish...
I can't see what's wrong with making a living from trapping crayfish. On the kennet the cray trapper there does a really good job keeping the numbers down, paying 25% of profit back to the club and earning a crust. Much appreciated and good luck to him.
Chris, how specific is the 'venue' section? I imagine that some people might not want to give that sort of info away, and /or it might lead to over populated venues where lots of posts come from?
Hope this doesn't sound glib, (I've been following this thread with interest and feel close to the Colne). Perhaps a Society which was not so specifically about 'angling' interest so much as about river environments? that's what we here probably commonly believe? and perhaps it's the bottom line...
I showed my local tackle shop and they contacted Drennan who sent me a replacement for free and quick too. Not had a problem since. Not ideal but it is a really good pole in my view.
Good shout Ian - fished the Colne by the little Britian lake a couple of years ago the free bit and caught a few nice chub. And there's a commercial day ticket water 'Farlows' just across from the little britain lake, the Colne there alongside it is pretty good for chub, perch and roach -...
Just a thought. If you are coming in on the A40M you could drop them at Uxbridge which has a direct tube into central London and then you are very near to the Colne river and valley with quite a few lakes too. I'm not a member of any of these waters but I'm sure there are one or two reading this...
