    Curse of the 'guest ticket'

Aged about 16 myself and a friend decided we would target the uncatchable carp in a small pond - my first night fishing session... So we baited up the intended swim on alternate days with catfood mixed with breadcrumbs - him one day me the next for 2 weeks. People made comments about the smell...

Such a shame. His posts are testament to the fact that he was a great bloke. Will miss him.

    What was that?

Out of the Pinn, into the Thames, around the English Channel and up the Severn estuary. Normal migration pattern for the burbot this time of year.

    Match Aerial

I noticed this a couple of weeks ago, the guy had put up on ebay old reels: intrepids and aerealites and so on, all on below £5 starting prices, which they went for… with the exception of one listed as "Here we have a vintage fly fishing reel ,complete with original line . no makers name but...

    River Lambourn....

That's great news. 'People power' at work, but how the bloody hell did the EA see fit to grant permission? Someone there needs to be held to account.

A message from Amy Stringer (Steve's daughter)

There's a plaque set back upstream from the footpath that's been there unmolested for many years. Forgive me I forget the name just now, but when Del and the RDAA boys cut the footpaths each year on LB it's a nice touch that they always clear a path to it. I reckon Amy can be reassured it'll be OK.

    Reasons for Barbel population decline

Judging by the idiots on show, it's time to vote Green I reckon - and let's put our money where our mouths are.

The health of our rivers - or not!

And say… if it is not being adhered to, us anglers might be the only ones that notice it happening. Then I can see a problem with a stand off with farmers (who often have a big say in the river access etc) and Anglers. 'It's tough enough as it is to make a living out of arable crops without...

The health of our rivers - or not!

Is there any rulings on fertiliser type and use close to rivers? I'm sure there must be. Late Feb early March there is a lot going into the arable fields, spraying tractor in the field I was in in March; and then those fields to get a load of rain or flood?

    2 miles of Thames vandalism

    Totally agree Joe

    2 miles of Thames vandalism

Good for you Rich. I don't understand the logic since the St Pats flows out of the Thames only to rejoin it via a little bit of the Loddon. It would be a shame to see trees and habitat destroyed particularly if only on behalf of the few very affluent but vociferous residents 'protecting their...

    Stillwater barbel fishing 2010

In fact Mike, IF YOU WANT AN ARGUMENT, I'd suggest that fresh breadsticks are probably a better weapon than stale ones. ORGANIC OR NOT.

    Stillwater barbel fishing 2010

In my experience Mike, when faced with a cos wielding aggressor, organic or not, my breadstick simply hasn't got the strength, if it's stale then it is even more crumblier. A large organic marrow on the other hand, possibly stuffed with concrete...
