Why don't you get a pair of breathable waist waders and boots , bit expensive compared to trousers but at least you will be dry

I have been using the Ray Walton rod again and it's grown on me, I may move the handle forward 6 inches and chop off the butt remaining just to balance it a bit better

I bought the Ray Walton rod but I found it heavy, I think a Harrison stalker or the Dave Mason rod is the way to go
