    Trotting help.

Jon, like Richard, I am a barbel float fishing novice, so watching this thread with interest. I know you are an excellant float man, so would you be kind enough to explain how you can fish "Slightly over depth and ran through at full depth?" To me, that would surely mean that you're float...

    Strong enough ?

I think the point here is that you really cannot expect a very small hook, such as some of the sizes mentioned here, to be strong enough in true 'Hit and hold' situations. It's true that some small hooks are stronger than others, but surely it's obvious to anyone that however strong the...

    Black Moon

Master Grant is still catching though Luke, when he gets settled down to it :D That's what Ian does though, isn't it, the rascal. Cheers, Dave.

    Black Moon

This colour prejudice is getting out of hand. The poor thing is sitting up there as miserable as can be, because people are even blaming it for not catching fish. I can hear it now saying (in it's best Ali G voice) 'Is it cos I is a black moon'? Cheers, Dave :D

    Maggots after dark

I had to pay mine double time for the night shift, but they worked really hard, so worth it :p Sorry John, couldn't resist it. Maggots work anytime, day or night, it makes no odds to the fish. Cheers, Dave.

    Positioning rod feeder fishing.

I would have thought that this would depend on the size, type and condition of the river being fished. I am a small river angler for the vast majority of the time, so have the luxury of having the rod stuck straight out in front, and on the same plane as the river, sometimes even pointing...

    Fluorocarbon leader issues......

These 'different' fluoros do make me wonder Cliff. The one failing of fluoro was always it's poor B/S to diameter ratio. If you check the Tackle Box line rating charts, you will find that 90+ % of standard mono lines are much stronger than the stated B/S, while 99% of fluoros are much weaker...

    Fluorocarbon leader issues......

Hi John, I just googled that FC Sniper fluoro that you mention, but there seems to be umpteen different versions of it. They are all made in Japan by Sunline, but why they need so many versions of it is a mystery. I thought Fluoro was fluoro, end of...but it seems not so. I was aware that some...

    Fluorocarbon leader issues......

Incidentally Adam, it is a good idea to use some sort of a leader when you are using braided main line (A) for sinking the last few feet, and (B) for getting the abrasive braid away from the body of the fish during the fight. However, your idea of using it as a shock absorber to avoid hook...

    Fluorocarbon leader issues......

I have no faith in fluoro, had bad experiences which put me off, but that was when it first came out, so hopefully there are better ones around now. Certainly there are some anglers who swear by it, so one would hope so. If you must use it, and you want to pin everything down at that end...

    Wanted - Shimano 3500b Baitrunner

It's that constant living with fear that's done it Clive...that and all the wind blowing through your ears while you're on that scooter :D Cheers, Dave.

    Water temps

There you have it Roland, top advice from some top blokes. To sum it all up (and it all ties in with my findings, for what that's worth) the major 'good chance' pointers are... Low pressure, rather than high. Settled conditions for a number of days, whatever the temperature. A rise in...

Is it me? Is it real?

Well, I hadn't realised there was a Romanian breed of lions, but looking at those pictures, they don't exactly fill me with fear I must say. I suppose they may make me a jump though...... Cheers, Dave.

    BAA 16lbe? ?

In my carping days, I fished one particular small water for several years, just loved the place. It had stunning Leney carp in it, wonderful old warriors with history. These were the type of fish that my all time favourite carp angler Terry Hearn loved and sought out, and he did a brilliant...

    Do Barbel go off baits

I think you have failed to appreciate the dangers of your chosen course of actions here Chris. I am reliably informed that storing the original Stinky French Garlic Spam' for any length of time can have catastrophic results for those living anywhere much above a line through Watford, Herts. It...

My centerpin casting has a lot more to do with Gromit than it has Wallace :D Cheers, Dave.

Is it me? Is it real?

:D:D:D You have got a point though Dave, it all seems to be all a bit of a Northen 'thing'. Apart from the Hull tigers (and now pumas :D) we have sightings of :- Castleford Tigers, Catalans Dragons, Huddersfield Giants, Leeds Rhinos, Salford Red Devils, Wakefield Wildcats and...

    Favorite hook size for barbel?

Darn sarf, the barbel take all their scrap to the dealers in the supermarket trolleys the northern geezers take their pies to their swim in, and dump in the rivers afterwards :D Cheers, Dave.
