    What a prat

I went on a trip with the lads many years ago, got there, found I had left the rod bag at home.....rods, landing net & handle, bank sticks, you name it, all sulking and feeling left out back in the garage :D Nowadays, age has meant that I am actually astonished if I get to the bank and find I...

    The Angling Trust.

In case some have not looked, it may be of interest to note that the income received by the AT in 2015 was £2,410,931, while expenditure was £2,351,435. Of that, £1,217,827 was accounted for by 'Wages, salaries, recruitment and pensions', leaving under half of all income to be spent carrying...

Subs???....otters, beavers, seals, big cats and now subs . It was better when this country was just going to the dogs :D Cheers, Dave.

    Best hooks for rolling meat??

Hooks types/makes, like any item of tackle, are all down to personal taste/experience. I would suggest that the hooks that instil in you the most confidence are the ones to use, whatever style they may be. The perceived wisdom regarding inward curving/beaked points are that they do not...

    Albert Watkinson

Albert's daughter broke the sad news to me just before I saw this post. I think Albert really was one of the nice guys of angling, and he and his dear wife supported each other so much. I think when she passed away, Albert was devastated beyond words...and that makes it so much harder to keep up...

    The Angling Trust.

Yes, I was a member for years Graham, and I remember that fiasco. It would seem one famous angler had a passion for money. Cheers, Dave.

    Huge congratulations

The old joke in Dad's Army that corporal Jones used to come out with when talking about pointy bits of steel was 'They don't like it up 'em'. Seems your fish takes a different view :D:D:D Joking aside, that is a magnificent fish Mark, the fish of a lifetime which most barbel anglers can only...

    Huge congratulations

Just looked at the river record for the Derbyshire Derwent, and it's 17.04, so at 16.08 that is a special fish indeed Mark. Do you know if it is the same fish? Cheers, Dave.

    The Angling Trust.

The fact remains that the AT is accepting funding from a body which has been in trouble countless times for pollution incidents, that has been taken to court and fined numerous times for severe pollution events, fines which incidentally WE pay through our water bills. Whether or not we can...

    Huge congratulations

What a great fish, congrats that man. It hasn't been eating my wifes cooking by any chance has it? It's either that or boilie belly :-). Cheers, Dave.

I know Rhys, I take your point, but these guys are another added potential problem that didn't exist until their appearance on the scene....and it can only get worse as their popularity rockets (which as you are aware, IS happening). I also think that the easy access to areas previously...

    The Angling Trust.

I agree Darren, I just think it sad that they don't seem to see the dismay that some of their policies are bound to cause amongst many of their grassroots angler members. For instance, how would you feel if you were feeding a swim in an effort to try to draw fish out of a far bank...

    About bloody time.

I have thought about finely cubed meat Richard, and I know it works to an extent because that was one option Keith Speer suggested to me. However, if you take an option based on budget (which I admit is sensible) then you always have that feeling gnawing away at you that you would be doing far...

    At Last

Brilliant news John, top gun rides again :D Hope you have a great first outing with the new gear mate, make up for lost time. We await the photos :D Cheers, Dave.

    About bloody time.

Wonderful story Richard. You were not too proud to ask, and then you put the effort in, so just rewards fella. I would love to do the same because so many anglers get so much pleasure out of the method that it is obviously greatly rewarding. Float fishing for other species in my younger days...

I assumed so too Dave. Certainly, this link below is what I am talking about. http://www.anglingtrust.net/news.asp?section=29&itemid=2700 Cheers, Dave.

    The Angling Trust.

I think their logic behind that rather bizarre transaction was that they didn't get enough funds from membership fees to do all they wanted to, so grab money where you can. Whether that is the best way to increase membership or not is questionable. Unless they can explain the logic behind it...

    The Angling Trust.

I do keep rejoining, but they do have an annoying agenda in certain areas. I am well aware that they can't please everyone all of the time, so I forgive them for not doing things that in my opinion they should...because they don't have the money to do everything. However, when they do things...

    Trotting help.
