    New rod advice

There's a Korum 2lb barbel rod on Ebay that still has the cork on for £50.

    Unwritten rule

Yeah I'm exactly the same. I wasn't bothered at first but then it kept happening enough to wind me up. Getting up at 3am to fish a park lake before the numpties arrive, another angler gets there at 5am, doesn't even say hi and sits in the swim next to me, fishes float and feeder at same time...

Source boilies for sea trout !

Funnily enough, one of my mates caught a similar size sea trout on a red hali pellet earlier the year. Guess they'll eat anything within reason.

Is the burbot extinct in UK?

Couple of sightings from 2010 in the AT - https://www.anglingtimes.co.uk/fishing-news/2010/extinct-burbot-spotted-in-river-eden-and-great-ouse As the EA's first thought when they get any reports is," lets net the whole area", personally, I don't think I'd be too quick to report any...

Recommend me a little front drag 3000/4000 match reel.

I got the CS5 4000 on a bogof deal and gave the spare one to my Dad. After using it for both roach and barbel on the float in 4 and 6lb lines respectively, I'd be more than happy to pay full price for it. Comparing this to the Daiwa Ninja in the same price range, on the retrieve there is a...

Recommend me a little front drag 3000/4000 match reel.

They have before, it's usually around christmas time they do alot of their deals. As they offer alot of the deals at their trade shows/meets I believe the ones offered on the site this year were to account for the fact that with covid no trade shows were on.

What do you mix and keep your groundbait in?

I use a basic 10l bucket and a whisk off an old electric mixer, seems to fluff it up nicely and doesn't have me smearing groundbait on everything.

    Pellets

There is a definitely a wide range of pellets being sold under the 'halibut' name, often varying batch to batch under the same brand names. Hell, last 10mm dynamite feed Halibuts i bought were clearly those classic stubby trout pellets. Ive found the Pre drilled Halibut pellets seem to be...

    Are Barbel the "new"carp ?

Having grown up around the Match Fishing crowd, the phrase "all the gear, no idea" comes to mind when observing some folk in the carp and barbel world. Thing is, every venue lends itself to different approaches just as much as an individuals situation dictates what they can do. Each to their...

    Hook choice

Another shout for the Bank Tackle Patterns here, strong, sharp and I often get dulled points from snags/rocks so responding well to a resharpening is of great importance to me.

    river trent bream

I was on the bank watching my Dad fish a few matches at Burton Joyce last Summer and all along that stretch there was plenty of good size bream caught, my Dad had a nice 7lber on a halibut pellet. That area is mostly owned by Ashfield Angling which has a long waiting list if I'm remembering...

No more barbel no more carp

As I much prefer river fishing regardless, I'd probably have to switch to targeting the larger roach/chub/dace. I spend a few weeks a year on the local park lakes targeting the Tench but any more than that and I'm gagging for running water.
