I think there are many good (maybe better, certainly less expensive) alternatives to GTX. Their ePTFE patent expired (mid ‘98 I think?) and in any case most manufacturers are moving away from ePTFE to ePE etc. GTX are certainly very good at marketing.

I think the MB Okuma blurb mentioned magnesium or mag alloy. Shimano also use magnesium in some of their big pit reels.

There’s definitely a lot to be said for good balance/weight distribution versus weight on its own. I’ve got a Daiwa Connoisseur 15ft that tips the scales around 230g but it feels “perfect” in the hand and can trot with it all day no problem. An excellent rod. Aesthetically I do miss the gloss...

Looks like quite a lot of wear on the locking mechanism (the grey part screwed on the left hand side pole in your pic). If after cleaning it won’t lock up, contact Drennan for a new one. These may help for reassembly and cleaning:
