Two on the float from my last tench trip. 5lb 6oz and a bit smaller.

I went tenching Saturday. I had one on float legered pellet… …and a shocker on triple red maggot lift method

I know the wisdom is strawberry/fruity but I’ve done well with “conventional” boilies/pellets (think the source & Robin red). Another favourite is sticky baits bloodworm pellet. Tench love ‘em, the ravenous rudd don’t although if there are big bream about you might have another problem.

In his book he describes wandering along the bank (G. Ouse?) with his dowsing rod chanting “4lb perch”. Next season I’ll be walking around Fishers Green chanting “20lb barbel…actually any barbel”. Why not, I’ve tried everything else.

I’ve got a copy of his book Pulling Against Fish and whilst it has some very interesting insights into bait, flavours etc, I put it down when I got to the mention of dowsing & sacral chakras.

As Ben said, those dark bronze fish are beauties. A great end to the season mate.

Not seen it with barbel, but definitely with river carp, two or three following the hooked one in. I’ve always wondered if it’s a curiosity thing or competitive feeding, maybe both.

Definitely try it. I was out yesterday and down here it was low, gin clear, sunny. In those conditions the wisdom is small baits, small hooks, etc. I’d not had a knock, so on a hunch stuck on a large cube of spam. I didn’t have a chance to put the rod in the rest.

A heads up, I used to use them with maggots for barbel until about 2 years ago: That wasn’t a big fish either, although feisty and at close quarters.

I agree with Richard, the Exceed disgorgers are the best out there. I used to have the old yellow ones with hook tyer on the end until I broke/lost them in the drink. I bought a new set Nov last year off Emily on eBay (the white ones, no hook tyer) and they are spot on. I’m pretty sure they...

“The Brook” is in the same vein as Above Bedford but looking back at the perch in Claydon Brook. The size and number of those perch was just incredible.
