I got a pair of Bolle wraprounds from a firm called spex4less a couple of years ago for about £130 (prescription lens).Cracking pair of shades & unlike some of the Optilabs cool enough to wear away from the bank :cool: :D
I've tried paste, but to be fair I've never had that much luck with it..I suppose it's a confidence thing & I don't think I've given it a fair crack, I usually cave in & stick a boilie or pellet on.
I suppose the advantage of using say a 12lb mono over braid would be the line due to it's large diameter would give the meat more of a pull,when fished with a loop (Tref West style).
Apart from this style of fishing I see no advantage to mono over braid,as for fish damage I've not seen any...
I've got to say I agree with Jon, on the Trent groundbait does the job, I've tried scalded pellets flavoured with CSL or whatever but groundbait mixed with hemp & maybe a few small pellets is king..
On the Yorkshire rivers tho things do vary, scalded pellets seem deadly on the Wharfe, on the...

I use a thermometer from the end of October thru to the end of the season & fish hard whatever..It can give you a little help in choosing a bait, tactics etc.

Phew on the Trent it's a barrow fully loaded with a bivvy 2 buckets & various tackle boxes also a rucksack & a rod holdall..Oh & a defibrillator for Conrad if its a long walk :):D;)
