    Another one bites the dust

The big factor here is Eels, when Otters were abundant before they had plenty of their favourite grub to munch. What we are witnessing now has not been witnessed ever before, otters can not be controlled as in the past, and now have free reign to deplete fish stocks in this country with...

    Another one bites the dust

Saw Countryfile lastnight, some woman in Derbyshire breeding giant otters, 2 metres long these things, god forbid if they ever get loose.

    Another one bites the dust

Otters are no longer a rare sight, they do not justify their protected status, they should be in the same category as Mink and Foxes and the right to control them should be allowed.

Free to attend meeting in York

Thanks Bryce. Good to hear about the Swale, but I wish it was the story on all our rivers up here.

    angling back on telly!

Catching the Impossible was a very well made series, when that managed to make it onto Channel 4 it was on a Sunday morning at about 5am, what a waste. Give me fishing programmes like that over the Essex Boys Pukka Brigade any day.

Top 3 most picturesque places to barbel fish.

They don't call Yorkshire God's Country for nothing, and we don't charge silly prices for daytickets either. Wharfe around Tadcaster is stunning, £2.50. Some nice stretches of the Swale aswell for a deep sea diver.

    New Korum river feeders

Exact same thing happened to me, bought 4 of them, 2 disappeared on the first casts, all that was left was the insert as you say.

    Hydro power at Topcliffe Weir

These hydro schemes are a disaster for any river they are put on, they produce very little energy and are basically a fish mincer and habitat destroyer. Watch this very informative video on them, then decide if you'd like one on a weir near you. Kelham Island Hydro on Vimeo

    Otter Devestation??

I think Dave is cock on, the fish have never been under so much pressure from predators as they are today, and the Otters are wasteful in their behaviour and the only ones that can take the biggest fish in the river easily, fish that are 10/20 years old. Us anglers have spent our money, bought...

    Dynamite tinned groundbait.

The tinned stuff was brilliant as a 50/50 paste ingredient. The Boilies where good catchers too. Apparently they could no longer source the main ingredient in it so stopped making it.

    Wormery

It looks like a Wormcity Wormery to me, I've got one too, just the job for breeding worms.

    Otter Devestation??

Otters are stripping rivers of Barbel, that's fact, first it was the Gt Ouse, now you can name half a dozen rivers they have and are having a negative impact on, they need to be controlled, in many cases too many were released. I have no doubt Otters have a place in the food chain and rightly...

    Otter Devestation??

I imagine larger fish are easier to catch for a variety of reasons too.

    Otter Devestation??

You know it would n't be half as bad if they actually ate all of what they catch, but they don't, they eat the insides and a little flesh, they have to catch 4 or 5 fish to eat the equivalent of one whole one. Such a destructive predator, these are Swale fish on a Leeds DASA stretch.

    Otter Devestation??

Lets all bury our heads in the sand and hope it goes away. The Otters will die anyway once they've eaten all the fish, which won't be too long. I've said it before and I will say it again, Otters are reaching the point where they are not an endangered species at all, and do not deserve to be...

    rod licence prices

If you have bought a licence and are waiting for it to come through they would never prosecute you for fishing without it. A quick check by a EA baliff over his radio would confirm you have payed and they'd leave it at that.
