    Priceless tackle?

I had some Avons that I'd saved up a small fortune (or so it seemed) to buy as a kid. Trudging the streets of a (very hilly) village to deliver papers for less than a pound a week to spend 15 pounds on a set of scales showed how much I wanted to be viewed as a 'specimen hunter'. Many years later...

Size doesn't matter / Booty guiding services

Just thought I'd share a short tale - with a bit of a preamble.... Having grown up by the banks of the Bristol Avon at Limpley Stoke the mighty Barbel has always been the fish I hanker after. As a kid in the 80's I caught an eye-poppingly large fish of 8.11 which was the biggest I'd ever seen...

    Interesting read

Thought provoking read, whichever side of the fence you are sitting on. Now what does a Barbel look like again??

    Avon Scales - 40lb x 1oz

Anyone interested in buying my Avon Scales? Had them for 25 years and had them serviced around 4 years ago by the Avon Scale Co. but the screen is a bit foggy for my dodgy eyesight. Screen has a small crack on it as well but otherwise in perfect working order. Checked with a certified 7lb weight...

    Pike Fly gear

Greys GRXi+ fly rod - 9ft #9. Only used a handful of times. Had Pike to over 20lbs on them. Comes with rod tube - zip tag is broken but zip itself still works fine so no bother. Okuma Airframe #7/9 reel with spare spool. One spool is loaded with #9 floating line that is unused. Comes with a...

    Decided thanks where to buy?

I use a Mark Tunley one - beautiful rod for rolling meat. Doesn't feel as beefy as the 1.75lb tc would suggest until you're hooked into a good fish (or a big snag in my case)

    Rolling Rod

I use an 11ft / 1.75lb Torrix and agree with all the comments. I prefer the shorter rod for control (and I'm 6ft 8in) and a completely different beast to the 12ft 1.75lb Torrix. I used to have an 11ft 1.5lb Seer Rod for rolling which was lovely but let me down when trying to control a very...

    Taking photo's with a flash

Thanks guys Brian - it was with an iPhone 6 and with a case so maybe that didn't help. Graham - I have seen serious night angers using separate light sources and the such like but they always seemed bulky. I try to travel light and only fish into the gloom for a short while in any case but...

    Taking photo's with a flash

Last weekend I managed to land a lovely barbel of 12lb 7oz at last knockings. However taking the obligatory trophy shots (admittedly only with an iPhone) has resulted in some pretty poor photos with flash glare and the such like. While I'm not overly bothered about this particular occasion it...

    The next barbel river record

I don't think it will be broken anytime soon and agree completely about the Thames, however we've seen with the Lodden, Ivel, Wensum etc.. that a small stretch of a smaller river can hold a number of big fish that can grow on to record proportions. Currently I'd say a big fish from the Nene...
