Neil,Joe....I feel I must say something.
Please don't fall out over something so trivial,if you were both mates before, you should remain so. Life's too short and all that.
To put it into perspective, here in Brum people are stealing cars with newborn babies inside, throwing acid in people's...
Yes Howard like the potential terrorists that are supposedly monitored constantly...."yeah we were monitoring him, then he exploded".....stable door.....horse....bolted.
Golf!!..... never. All the physical things I used to do are out of the question,so fishing it is. No barbel, now no pike......maybe eels? Oh no but then there's the deep hooking thing.....what's left?
But isn't Feb or Mar when DO levels high better for recovery. I've never had a big girl go belly up :p but I'll admit to catching them in the summer when I was less experienced, and they didn't always go back so well.
You can garner all the scientific data in the world, but nothing can override competence and experience in barbel fishing. I'd be more inclined to listen to very experienced and competent barbel anglers, than some boffin who's never fished a day in his life. It's universally accepted that October...
I couldn't tolerate the air temps Jason, otherwise I might venture out for a few hours. I'm literally sat in the house in shorts, with the fan pointed at me
Their body language just didn't seem quite right,I was that close I could of touched them. I agree though about their ability to tolerate low oxygen levels.
I remember reading in a Chris Yates book regarding the summer of 76 at redmire. The carp were visible on the surface morning,noon,and...
Shocking Joe,perhaps a blanket ban is the only option. People need protecting from themselves. I've not fished at all now for over 3 weeks, and I'm not going to lie,it's killing me. I'm on a 2 week summer shutdown and bored sh#*less. I had a walk along the cut the other day and saw carp gulping...
It's fundamentally important we maintain sustainability of dwindling stocks, that's just not happening at the moment. Most of the rivers problems,we as anglers have no control of whatsoever, but the ability to abstain from fishing we do. There's not much point fishing any month of the river...
Due to this unprecedented weather at the moment I've had a change of heart as regards the close season debate. For a long time now I've been all for scrapping the close altogether, but due to people's irresponsible actions in continuing to deliberately target barbel,I've changed my mind. I...
I'm all for these introductions, but then I'd like to go the whole Hog and see wolves and bears reintroduced. Think of the benefits, particularly at the moment. They could predate on all the 'chavs' the 'heatwave barbel killers' and the EE poachers,it's a win win.
Sorry Phil, slip of the finger. I didn't mean to quote your post....I was questioning a different BFW member, who has form!
I post off my smartphone,it's not the best, tapping away on a tiny screen.....no offense meant Phil.
I've read somewhere in the past ( don't quote me on this) that barbel are almost exclusively made up of red as opposed to white muscle tissue. I'm familiar with our own make up of 'fast twitch' and 'slow twitch' muscle fibers. If we translate that to the fishy world, that would make the barbel an...
