    Maggots or Big baits

Thanks for your replies.I only asked for a couple of reasons, firstly I have always struggled to catch if I fish this time of year.Secondly,I intend to fish a new length to me ,it's more of a prospecting trip so a mobile approach may be the way to go.Thanks again and will keep you posted.

I think that shows why this country is becoming one of the most animal species depleted in the world.

    TUNA!

Strange things on the river bank.

Not a strange thing but an example of how obsessed anglers can be.I was fishing at Throop mill, the forecast was for a boiling hot day.I had set up in a swim fishing a mid river run against a large length of bullrushes.Around mid morning a young couple arrived to fish the opposite bank,obviously...

    How far?

I dont like where this thread is leading to.I thought B.F.W was an all inclusive discussion forum. However surely if everyone started using garlic cloves as bait, barbel would become preoccupied with feeding solely on that. This would mean that any of our B.F.W members from Transylvania who fish...

    How far?

Good point Damien.I always understood that the point of regular feeding was to create competion amongst feeding fish to overcome their natural caution in taking the hookbait.

How did your Barbel journey start ?

I was 18yrs old and had only fished local dams, canals and the River Calder which didn't contain any barbel at the time.My friend had just passed his driving test and we set off to fish the Swale at Cundall Hall in his dads hillman imp which found hills a challenge! We were both using...

Thoughts on Barbel wising up to rigs

Please see post River Nidd, was trialling a 3 ft length of lead core braid above my hooklink having had previous issues with knocks and plucks not developing but didn`t seem to help. (obviously making sure the lead clip passed over the knot where the lines joined)
