It was late when I read Keith's post and I struggled to see the relation of the points. Sometimes the obvious must escape me.
In principle I agree with the points made. The prevalence of poaching is more in the fore then it ever has been or is it just the internet that has made us (some) more...
Keith, I would say Mr Speer, but it would beg the question why one would want to open a thread so... a bit surprised by that to be honest.
The above response was made in relation to Ian's point regarding real issues facing our rivers 'like abstraction, effluent protein skimming, control of...
No probs Ian - its a term that could be used in a sense regarding the treatment of ammonia, a derivative of urea arising from the deamination of protein. Treatment of ammnia is fairly straight forward being a standard treatment by nitrification.
Phosphorus removal is more to address...
Plenty of EEs on the Nene & on the Tidal Trent. Only recently the EA took details of over a dozen of EEs on a popular stretch of the Tidal - the kind of semi successful raid (if they'd come earlier they'd have caught more) was undertaken by boat! How much fact do you want? I think that certain...
Informative post & thanks Keith for the expansion. Just out of interest, does any one know what red maggots are dyed with? Metal base or...?
Cheers, Jon
Don't really think they need to be stored in the freezer - I too would have thought that they might break down quicker as a consequence - it might be a novel way of purposely adapting ones feed to to give different breakdown times tho! Give it a go & see what results it brings by placing both...
Neil - same too. I used to be preoccupied with accuracy quite a few years ago - now weighing fish is a ball ache. Nothing better than just catching & returning fish, & wetting the sling on the very odd occasion. A few ounces here or there. Chances of a record - possible or probable...
For info...
Can't go wrong with CC Moores - order it & it arrives. Maybe very slightly more expensive but given the freshness & prime condition it's worth it compared to fannying around making ones mind up...
Cheers, Jon
PS I have sent you a PM
How about a mix of the two. Low dose of the artificial & more heavy on the natural. LO30 good for glugging & apparently cannot be overdosed. Thing with the naturals, be minded to limit boiling times or to redose on the surface & freeze to allow to permeate the bait deeper. Upon defrosting...
Additives - lots to go at & could write reams. Watch the forthcoming cold weather may be adding emulsifiers to oils keeping them low. Make the bait quite porous too using birdseeds like CLO, RR & even the addition of wheat germ for added digestibility in the colder climbs. Also, through choice...
Had it happen to me...ermmm...twice in one season. One was down to water release late at night from the hydro from Beeston weir - water rose quickly, retreated with all tackle up the bank & then 20 mins later...where's the net. The other was an absent moment on the tidal. Pointlessly expensive...
