Bob i think you will find it is the same bait. Guy Robb and myself will be using one of their baits this season. PS caught loads of Barbel on various rivers using krill baits.
Penn liveliners are awesome reels for the price. I have had cats to nearly 120lbs on mine and they never missed a beat. Would make great flood reels for big rivers such as the Severn or tidal Trent. The ones i use hold 300m of 100lb berkley braid.
It is second nature to me! I was a professional photographer for nearly forty years. First eight years using Sinar mono rail cameras photographing fine art and architecture and the rest as a senior medical photographer in orthopaedics. Never take a camera with me now.
Also don't bother with a tripod or bank stick to hold your camera. Use a mini tripod (Gorilla pod) ebay about £20, you can mould it to the back of your chair.
A lot of the problems come from the fact that your camera or phones are set on auto. I never use this on any of my cameras or phones, they are always set to manual. You could also use a filter such as a polarising one, this takes the glare off water and windows. you will need to turn the filter...
Have been retired from work for nearly three years along with a colleague and we fish every week, sometimes three times a week regardless of the weather. Unless the Thames is frozen. Chub and Roach are the main quarry.
Graham, I have caught Barbel from an Oxfordshire gravel pit, it was around 7lbs. The pit is next to the river Windrush, which floods into it. The Barbel was in tip top condition and fought like any other Barbel i have caught. These pits also hold some big chub. PS i put the Barbel back into the...
Mark, i have never fished that far down, Maidenhead is the lowest. There are all manner of things swimming in the Thames, terrapins, exotic fish ( pet shop went bust and all the fish went into the river) and wels catfish, some are pretty big. I have no idea how crabs and crays would co habit but...
I voted for the Thames. I have witnessed a Barbel of over eighteen pounds from it, this fish was a really large framed beast living on a natural diet and not anglers bait. The Thames is a daunting venue and the fish can move for miles without ever coming into contact with an anglers bait. Its a...
Hi all,
What with all this cold weather and the fishing not being very good, i was wondering what the effect of road salt was going into the water? It turns out that it is classed as a toxin by the Canadians. Re. Canadian environment protection act 1999 and poses a risk to plants, animals and...
Big PVA bags
Those big PVA bags are used for putting soiled dirty linen in, such as bed sheets. Any nursing home or hosp use them. They used to cost about £3:00 for about six bags about four foot square. You have to make sure you get the low water melt ones as some won't melt in cold...
I have fitted fox quivers to one of my Harrisons, they have much bigger eyes than Drennans. I am meeting John Everard this week at his house and i know he has modified some of his Drennan quivers with larger eyes. Will post info later this week.
Never seen a salmon angler on the Thames even though there are salmon ladders ( total waste of time) have herd a rumor of an 18 this week, not the one that was in the mags. Time will tell.
I have used the aquarium thermometer from maplins. I have used them for years never let me down. wrap a piece of lead solder around the probe at the end of the wire, it makes it easier to throw it into the river. They take normal AAA batteries.
Try threading a thin braid through the eye, make a loop thread your line through the loop and pull back through the eye of your hook. Have had the same problem when using fluro carbon line.
