I was told about the 21:10 about a month ago by a very reliable source who said it was caught by a carp angler. No photos as of yet could be true but who knows. Have seen the photo of the 19:1 and its big. He caught the same fish early this year at just over 17. With the Thames you never know...
Thanks Graham, How is the Wye fishing? Had a few trips there this season and caught a good number up to nine pounds. Its nice to fish a river with a bit of flow. The Thames has produced good number of barbel so far and rumours are saying there has been a monster of over twenty out but you know...
I agree. Its a bit late in the season but some of our best catches came as the first frosts arrive, they know they need to eat as it may be their last chance for some time. Mr Robb and i will start again when he returns from his five weeks in Spain, weather permitting.
Hi Stephen, As i said hemp is the key. We use lots of it and mix it 50 50 with pigeon conditioner. You can use a bait dropper or spod when no flow and shallow or mix it with ground bait and use a catapult. A shoal of Thames bream will get through kilos of boilies in no time, so using hemp will...
Do baiting campaigns for barbel work! In a word yes. 95% of my barbel fishing is on the Thames, the barbel can be very nomadic and move over large distances. They can spend time in areas that you cannot fish such as weir pools, so its an advantage to bait an area that you think they will pass...
Don't bother with Redmire. I was invited to fish it a few years ago. Very disappointed, very weedy and full of small carp. How about a nice digital camera and self take setup.
Sat blanking on the Thames as usual a few years ago, when two objects moved overhead on the same path at speed. Turned out it was the ISS and space shuttle which were getting ready to dock. Had me going for a moment. ps still blanking on the Thames
My version is the type of crewsaver (hammer i think) that works only with water pressure ie you have to be in water for it to go off. i have had the other version which would go off in the rain or in the back of my car when wet from the walk back from my swim. The other option is to wear an...
I fished the Wye this week and the mud left from the falling river is like ice, very dangerous. No fish is worth your life. I always take a rope and dog spike plus i always wear a 275n crewsaver life jacket.
I have caught barbel on 2x 20mm baits and on a single grain of corn. There is no one size of bait that you can use in all conditions. It depends on water temp, water colour, size of fish that you are after and how pressured the fish are. i generally use 18mm boilies as i don't like to be annoyed...
Its not messy but it stinks. With this you will have enough powder to make several mixes.
You could mix all these up with eggs and not use the pastry. Good for Chub to. I use it to wrap around boilies.
You can make up paste very easily from ingredients mainly from the Co-op.
Ground maize meal
Yellow semolina
Ground almond meal
Milk powder
Pastry (blue packet)
Garlic oil
Krill powder (not the Co-op)
flavour
You can add cheese to this, such as Danish blue, mature chedder.
This is...
There are still loads on the Windrush and Evenlode Jason. On the Thames the numbers seem to go down after the floods of 2007. They have a lot downstream of Oxford towards Reading as well. Perhaps the chub have had them all! This season there has been an explosion of roach, no crays to eat the...
The Thames around Oxford was infested with the dam things. We found that if you fished with larger baits then when they became a pain put some smaller baits in as loose feed. It would only stop for a short period and we had to repeat the feed. A friend of mine who had his own carp lakes said...
When i do use alarms for my barbel fishing i use Delkim EV's with fox snag ears. You can turn the sensitivity down so they do not bleep at every leaf that hits the line. Use them for all my carp and cat fishing as well. Still got 4 of the original De Romag versions and they still work.
