I have an overnight session planned for next Wednesday should be fining down nicely with the heavy rain we had yesterday, more to come today and Monday. I have fingers & toes crossed (not easy that :)) for a really good session.
Have heard differences of opinion of using groundbait amongst fellow Barbel anglers.
One favours a smelly groundbait laced with pellets and hemp delivered by several Spomb casts to feed a swim before a night fishing session. Another says use a minimal amount of groundbait, use pellets instead...
@Bill Walford Thank you for posting the link to the ABF I have joined the Fiskerton waiting list.
@Richard Dawson Fingers crossed we should get our offers at the the same time and be able to have joint night sessions. 👍
Morning Mate,
on the last session we had, after the brief shower the banks were slippery for me, so can appreciate your difficulties. Have suggested Newark & District Piscatorials Fed before, many of their streches have stone steps or like Winthorpe are very flat. they are also for the most...
I have a Korum Aeronium and found no issues with it although I am a svelte nudging 13 stone. The only issue I have is the legs even when extended are not long enough for some of the swims that I have fished. Just taken a look at the Nash Ultralight indulgence with legs that extend to 39 Cms will...
Thank you for the responses everyone, I am enjoying reading the back stories behind why we all fascinated with Barbel.
@John Newman I'll have to dig my copy of Mr Crabtree out, my memory is a bit hazy, it may very well have been the Kennet. Growing up in Leicester opportunities to fish a river...
For me it was an invitation by an experienced Barbel angler to join him on the River Trent. Had a really enjoyable day talking river fishing and learning, topped by my first river Barbel. As a city kid reading 'Go Fishing with Mr Crabtree' Barbel were a near mythical fish caught from mighty...
Absolutely brilliant. 👍 Always great to hear about dads taking their kids fishing, you only have to talk to older anglers who fished with their dads as to how much it means to them. Looks like a lifetime of shared experiences & adventures are on the way that will mean the world to both of you,
My fiirst Barbel from East Stoke River Trent 26/07/20 I was fortunate to be invited to join an experienced Barbel angler for the day and I have been hooked since. 🤣As first go an 11 Lb 3 Oz torpedo isn't bad, feels a priviledge to catch and release safely, such a stunning fish every time I land...
Have had the same question from the good lady, my answer to that is, I can get them out and explain what each one is used for. That answer puts paid to any further enquiries. :D:D
Mine is modest compared to some.
3 X Barbel rods 2 X 12 Lb 1 X 1.75 Lb
2 X 13 Ft Heavy/Distance Rods one rated to...
Have you used them yet Paul and what's the verdict ? The reason I ask is that I have two Korum 2Lb rods and the good lady was asking what I wanted for Christmas, so was thinking the Trilogy with the 1.75 & 2.20 Lb would be ideal for the Middle Trent for Barbel.
