Record High Winter Temperatures - Records Being Broken ?

Given the reports of record high Winter temperatures across Europe is there a likelihood of Barbel feeding more frequently throughout Winter and retaining the weight gain, possibly resulting in new river records being broken or will they lose weight from now until spawning ?

    New Year Resolution

Thank you @Bill Walford I am hoping I can go down to a four day week this year, which will mean more bankside time.

    New Year Resolution

My resolution was to catch a Barbel. :) Day one of the New Year and achieved it already with two today, No record breakers at 8Lb 2 Oz and 9 Lb 10 Oz, but after 4 blank sessions they were most welcome.

    The Trent this week

This Was East Stoke on Friday, small trees being carried along in the main flow. There are some large stone steps somewhere under there. 😁

    River Trent running high

I am hoping it won't be over the banks by Friday, this morning it's 1.324 up and rising. Given the expected rain due today & tomorrow I will be watching closely to see where to go on Friday.

    River Trent running high

River Trent at Farndon 1.206 and rising at 20:00 Hrs tonight, above typical high of 0.91 for the time of year. I don't know whether to fish it or surf on it. 🤣

    finding the impossible Boot ??????

I am with you there Gerry I have a pair of Jack Pyke Tundra boots and Derri slip on Muck type boots, neither on a steep, wet mud bankside fill you with confidence. I am seeriously thinking of wearing my waders which at least have some studs (failing that I will dig my old rugby boots out :)) I...

    What is fishing?

Sport, hobby or pastime ? Sport for those that compete in matches Hobby/Pastime same thing I suppose the only distinction I can see is a Hobby is something that you do often and repeatedly, for some to the exclusion of any other interest a pastime is something you do once / twice a year...

    Time for a re-think

Blimey Jim I admire your perseverance think I would have switched to the Trent after the first 2 weeks.

Stay Safe, Please watch this video !

It appears he steps on overgrowing vegetation believing that there is solid bank underneath. Could be the close proximity of the un-hooking mat to the edge led him to unconsciously step around it. Had one or two slips and scary moments down rain soaked banks at Fiskerton on the Trent...

    Time for a re-think

@Paul Richardson I guess if we could fathom fishing to an exact degree it would lose some of it's charm.

    Time for a re-think

Thank you everyone for the encouragement and tips, it's very much appreciated. 👍👍 I have taken myself out the back and and given my head a good boffing ! 🤣 I think I am over the disappointment of the overnight session now and raring to get out and try a few tweaks thanks to the support I...

    Time for a re-think

Hi Richard as it happens I was planning a Saturday/Sunday bankside. Depending on the likely river level then Fiskerton could be good, but I know the banks can be treacherous if more rain soaks in between now and then depending on which pegs you are thinking of going on. I know the last time...

    River Soar. Record?

Was the first place I fished as a 10 year old, I am amazed that a 16lb 4oz bertie haunts the river. :)

    Time for a re-think

Thanks for the replies everyone, have realised I had stoked my expectations up for the overnight session higher than I should have, although the river did fine down overnight the weather conditions and the stretch of the river itself all pointed to a bonanza session, that will teach me ! 😁...

    Time for a re-think

On my third blank in a row... :( granted one was on the upper Trent at Willington during daytime, one at East Stoke although not the banker Barbel pegs and before the Trent had the influx of rain it has recently, that would have made the peg a better bet. Last Wednesday though went on my first...

    What would you do...?

I have booked an overnight session with a River Trent guider next year to improve my Barbel fishing and the thought of having a valid ticket didn't occur to me. I would assume as it's an arranged trip that a ticket would be sorted. The venue hasn't been decided yet, but it's something I will now...
