To be honest, I'm glad to catch a few bait robbers whatever the method because I know the better stripes wont be too far away....keep at it and maybe the old loner biggie that is just off in the gloom will fancy a nibble ;)
On the worm I constantly feed chopped worm, maggot and groundbait all...
Nice one Leon....it's good when you hit a target early:):):)
As for the "bait robbers" I've found that when worming you just have to fish through them and wait until the better fish come in, once they do the smaller ones often move off as they come into the food chain themselves;)

Richard,
I have previously also adopted the theory you allude to....baiting as many as 6 spots in rotation throughout the day with the intention of fishing them in strict rotation in the evening/night. I found that by baiting regularly and not fishing until later on, I was often rewarded with...
Richard,
I have some experience(?) of targetting bigger Barbel on the very river you speak of....
....I used to fish with 2 rods and only 1 bait. Bit of a mad idea you may think - certainly sounds like one that's for sure!!!
This was the rationale behind the "method"
1. The upstream rod...
David,
I've been dabbling with this method for the past 2 seasons....with a little success here and there:)
Basically, the dropshot (DS) comprises an un-weighted rubber lure/worm on a hook that sits above the weight. The rig can then be cast out on a lightweight rod and "jiggled" back...
Nice one Deano....we'll have to get together bankside sometime....
As I've been concentrating a bit much on worming lately and not wanting to turn into a "one trick pony" I had a full day out with nothing but DS/soft rubber jigs yesterday....
....The Severn was again the target venue but due...
Ade, to add to that lovely comforting smell I keep orange peel and banana skins and once they are dried out, they add a lovely citrus smell to the smoke too :)
I now routinely pick up pine cones along the way too as I also like the pine smell that comes off them - they take a flame well too and...
Not an Otter but I have hooked and landed a Cormorant on a livie before....wondered if I had a record capture for the Severn so organised witnesses to come and witness the weighing but unfortunately it died in the sack before they arrived:rolleyes:
I've also had a seagull hooked fairly and...
No idea when it comes to Cardiff Bay but I've caught Barbel from near to HMP Gloucester in the past....the water there is continually murky.
Does not the tidal Trent hold Barrbel in numbers too?
Paul
Had a quick dash 'n' splash down on the lower last evening....managed 3 small Zeddies around the 5-6lb mark and all on small livies....water in the main river was up and coloured but I found a nice slack to present the baits in - lovely ;)
