    Duo-lite. Avon or Specialist

Just bought one of these specifically for perch, advertised as a carp feeder but has a lovely soft action for perch and roach with lines 3lb to 6lb. Wouldnt want to catch a carp on it, but i suppose on a clean bottomed carp puddle you'd be okay. Havent christened it yet, but i bought it on the...

Andy, After last months escapade on the bristol channel spending all day in the cabin being ill, I wont be requiring a boat anytime soon. :o Should be able to get a friday to monday off. cheers Paul

    Bull Huss

Andy, Should be okay, but i'm on family hols with kids from 9th April for one week, so end of march or end april would be better for me. Paul

    Tewkesbury seal

Missed it Andy, but read about it on the other thread. Not usual for them to get that far up the tidal. Would have loved to have seen it waddling out of the weir onto the ham and back up into the non tidal. Not too concerned, plenty of meal sized zeds to plough through and hopefully a one off...

    River carp

Good luck Duncan, we had 6.5C on the upper thames after perch last week. Enough to stir some carp into feeding i reckon. Paul

    First fish of 2011

Gary, I have also found that tench feed avidly on worms in the coldest of conditions and last january i was catching tench (on worm) whilst half the lake was frozen. Oddly, or perhaps not, i was also after the perch at the time, but caught far more tench than perch on one pit. Most were...

    Bristol Channel Cod

Andy, Might be worth a try, 11.6 not too big, but will still limit us to about 1hr after hw as battery is seriuosly problematic on the ebbing tide from memory (which aint much good these days). Will do some diggin. Paul

    River carp

Matt, I think you will struggle in these conditions mate. Water temps will be very low and the carp and barbel most likely wont be feeding; if they do it will be on small items and for a very short period. You may get lucky, but i'd be thinking about chub, grayling, roach, pike or perch. Paul

    Bristol Channel Cod

Typical Barry, The cod on the channel have spread out and a bit more difficult to catch. I think they may be avoiding the areas mud/sand that are exposed in daytime as the cold weather will be putting the lug etc down, plus the sprats have definitely moved in judging by reports. I think they...

    Which one do you join?

Ive received a communication from Tim recently, which would indicate that the multi species groups "thing," is still very much in the pipeline. Agree with Conrad, and would say "spread your wings and fly......" ;), and whilst barbel are without doubt truly magnificent, other fish are too...

    Fluorocarbon Hooklink Material...

John, The subterfuge is quite limp for a fluoro, but i havent compared it with illusion soft. It is the 12lb 0.33mm that i use and i quite like it. :) Ive even used it sea fishing and it stands up to crabs quite well. :D Paul

    Fluorocarbon Hooklink Material...

John, its the subterfuge hooklink material. I've tended to move away from the fluoros for mainlines, because they seem to absorb colour or fade quite quickly, whereas with the hooklinks it doesnt matter if you bin it after a session. I havent tried the mirage. If i could find a fluoro mainline...

    Fluorocarbon Hooklink Material...

The old illusion was as tough as old boots, with the 12lb breaking at around 17lb, unfortunately it was also not very fluoro for long, suffering from discoloration quite quickly. As a hooklength, probably okay, although my personal pref is for the gardner and jrc soft fluoros, which remain clear...

Nothing to moderate Fred, unless of course you can see, with the all seeing eye, something i may have missed? Paul

    Which one do you join?

Jamie, If you want to join a barbel club, think about what you want from that club and if it suits your circumstances, join. You really only have a couple of options anyway as some of the barbel groups are by invitation only or by a considered application process based on experience or other...
