    what rods ?

Depends what river you are fishing and how you intend to fish it! In the edge and on small rivers, i'll still use 1.75 Infinities. If i'm banging out a 7oz feeder plus g/bait into the middle of a swollen thames at somewhere like maidenhead or on the lower severn, i'll use 2.5 Specimen Neoterics...

    Barbel boiled baits back when?

Didnt start using boilies for barbel until 1993, myself. Bit slow on the uptake considering i was making them for carp from the mid to late 80's:o Does anyone remember the paste baits that were being used prior to the bright spark who decided to start rolling and boiling them. Back in the...

    D rig

Chris, Cant see why it wont work, but also cant see why you would need it. I suppose it depends on what you are trying to achieve. Have you seen your fish picking up and spitting out hook baits and do you feel that hook and bait separation is necessary? if so, a blow back rig might be more...

    Boilies Only????

Or.....the net gets stuck in the ice in the margins.:D

    Bristol Channel Cod

Out on the channel again last friday, but it was a bit wet and windy which made it a bit tricky fishing from rocks, especially after dark. Managed a couple of very small codling, but it was hard work. Think Mr Davies and his father had a few keepers, so the fish are there still. Good fun though...

    Boilies Only????

John, It has always worked for me when using boilie only on the severn and warks avon. Usually use fine boilie crumb (now made easier with a krusha), broken boilies and between 1 and 4 half boilies on the hair depending upon boilie size. Great method when you are trying to introduce new baits...

    A Lack of Interest

Definitely been feeling this way this season, partly due to the nature of places i'm fishing, a family loss and a general reluctance to travel an hour to get to where i thought i wanted to go. Shore fishing has re-lit my fire and catching a few codling for the pot makes a real change. Also...

    Bull Huss

Andrew, No worries, i'll look forward to a spring trip. Sounds like it could be a good social with the chance of some nice fish.:) In the meantime, i'll carry on doing some research. Forgot to mention that Ty Croes is producing one or two big huss; may still make a November trip. :-)...

    Bristol Channel Cod

Barry, At least you got out mate, they may be there next time. Fish location is just a tad more difficult in the open seas isnt it? Here one day and gone the next. Hopefully out on the channel again on friday pm. Some very good thornbacks coming out of the channel at the moment, but...

    Bull Huss

Hi Chaps, Cornwall was a write off for Huss; the mark that i was hoping to fish (eastern gear on rame head) was a bugger to walk down to without fishing gear:( and not safe to fish alone, so i gave up on the idea and fished the beach 100 yrds from the cottage for whiting and pollock. :)...

Pike baits – Food for thought!

Steve, 2lb livebaits, bit of a touchy subject i know, as many dont agree with the principle of it, but i dont see it being a problem in cold conditions except for the fact that big pike can get lethargic when its really cold. We were on Ken in April 1998. I went to Sweden in 1996 and we...

    Bull Huss

Miz, Cant open it up at work, will have a look later. have you seen the clip with the young lad and his dad boat fishing. The lad catches a nice huss and it's trying to twist up and bite the lads arm; the dad is peeing himself laughing. Made me chuckle. :-) Paul

Pike baits – Food for thought!

Steve, back in the late 90s a few of us (well two of us; myself and Simon Pennington) in the Cotswold Region of the PAC fished on Loch Ken with live jacks. We caught plenty of bigger pike, but found that the jacks werent necessarily a selective bait for the size of fish we hoped to catch. We...

Andrew, We'll have to try and arrange something in the next few months and/or spring.:D I have the Wirral site on my favorites when i was looking at different cod rigs a while back; really useful site. I'll have to give it another read. I also found a site that gives some of the Lleyn...

    Bream and barbel?

Chris, Carried on fishing with same hookbait and feeder mix, as the area (and bait) had good previous form. No more than an under arm cast in fairly shallow water with that grassy reed stuff you find close in on the severn at Diglis, Pixham and other areas in summer. ;-) Paul

Dont know what happened their chaps, Simons post got deleted, probably by me unless a blip happened. Weird. :-( Was going to add that we could perhaps meet up with Andrew if he's up for it. Paul

    Bull Huss

Andrew, That is a stunning fish mate, what lovely colours. Around 12lb at a guess?:o I find the variation in colours from different venues fascinating, ranging from dark brown, slate grey and that light sandy colour of yours. I was thinking of using a running conger type rig on one rod...
