I'm exactly the same - and not just where tackle is concerned. Little Egret Press seems to have cornered the market in the piublication of interesting-sounding angling books of late, but because the editing and layout of some of their earlier titles was so appalling, I've vowed to never buy...
Korum seem to be particularly poor about keeping/supplying spare parts for some of their products. I lost the nut and bolt fixing for one of the mudfeet on my Aeronium chair and asked if they could supply a replacement, as none in my extensive nut and bolt collection would fit. They said they...
My missus shared a house with some early-adopter vegans when she was at college back in the early '70s. They tried to feed their cat a vagan diet and it voted with its feet (paws?) - it ran away and they never saw it again!
I'd agree with the advice about bait vs lures. Since the first lockdown, I've never seen so many lure anglers on the canals. They did well to start with, but the perch have now wised up and are generally ignoring lures. They never wise up to worm or maggot, though.
I have one of these chairs and my only complaint is the nut & bolt fittings for the mudfeet, which have a tendency to come loose and fall out if not checked regularly. Korum can't supply spares, so two of the mudfeet on mine are held on with stainless steel 'R' pins, which I think are an...
Quite a few Wizard users complain that the rod feels unbalanced due to its comparatively short handle. The rod in its original design was meant to be used with the reel (usually a centre pin) positioned half-way down the handle. This was a common style at the time and meant the rod felt lighter...
Another 12 footer that would be up to mid-size barbel is the Lee Aquila - on the same lines as the Chapman Hunter, but not so sought after and consequently a fair bit cheaper. I have both a Hunter and an Aquila and the actions are quite similar.
That wasn't a deliberate stocking though - members of the family that owned the estate at that time rescued ghost carp from a small pool next to the manager's cottage when it started to lose water, leaving the fish in distress. Rather than see them die, they put them into Redmire, not realising...
I have one of the older Korum Ruckbags and never lay it flat - I find I can pack it better and still easily reach anything I need when it's in an upright position.
I repaired my Korum All Rounder 12' 1.5lb rod that snapped a couple of inches from the tip by Gorilla-Glueing an old baiting needle shaft into both ends of the broken part. The repair has lasted over a year without any issues and doesn't seem to have affected the action of the rod.
I know a lot of people rate this stuff, but it doesn't repel insects so much as drown them in a sloppy barrier film. I find Smidge a lot more pleasant to use, as it quickly dries on the skin after application and keeps away every flying pest (except swans and coots), even the dreaded West...
