    A tragedy from the past.

A timely reminder Keith, particularly with Winter approaching and the added dangers this brings to the banks. Duncan.

    Patrolling for poachers

We can't expect the EA to protect our waterways 24/7. They do a very good job but as we well know that they simply don't have the funding, resources and man power to carry on this battle on their own. It is an issue that won't go away and has the potential to get a lot worse over the next few...

    Autumn, here with a bang

Definitely starting to feel like barbel weather to me. First visit this season to the Kennet planned for tomorrow night. Two meaty offerings on the menu, garlic spam on one rod and pepperami on't other. Been a very hard season thus far so looking forward to some autumn / winter sport. Just...

    Selfish boaters. Grrrrrrrr

Similar situation on the Thames. I've fished / lived by the river for most of my life and definitely noticed a huge increase in recent years of all sorts of river craft. From woefully incompetant canoeists to petrol heads in powerful ribs and rich idiots in huge cruisers. A lot of these boats...

    Colouring-in hooklengths.

I have coloured Pantone markers ( cheaper in an art shop rather than a tackle shop ) but even a usual black perminant marker will work. I use it to ' fleck ' the hook length usually on coated braids that have been stripped back and look too stark. Also fleck down rig components, sleeves and...

    royal berkshire fisheries.

If I was going I'd probably fish the waggler and spray maggots. Same as most commercials, the silvers will move in first and then hopefully the carp. Always a chance of a big roach or even a big perch but they do get targetted so you're probably best doing the above if you want to get bites on...

    unusual baits....

An old bailiff on my club ticket used to catch a load of barbel on broad beans. They'll try anything once, reckon if you hair rigged a whole Cadbury's cream egg...if its in the right place at the right time ...wallop !! :D D.

    First day of the close....

I quite enjoy the close season, well the first couple of weeks anyway. Allows you time to reflect, take stock and draw a line under the previous seasons graft. It's almost a relief to stop thinking constantly about fishing and stop studying every weather forecast like it's the last...
